    It's about time I did a refit..

So the leak in my workshop roof got a lot worse with the heavy rail we've been having here in North wales. If you look in a couple of the photos above you can see the extent of the rotten patch of pallet wall and the black mold building up... I decided to rip the pallets off the damp bit to get...

    Budget jigsaw

I keep an eye out for these Makita jigsaws.. I have three now and though old and rough looking they are bullet proof and really heavy which makes them very nice to cut with.. The extra weight suppresses vibration and with variable feed on the blade and speed control they are just the best.. I...

    Electric hand planers

I have three I bought second hand (less than a tenner each) and just fitted new blades that I buy in bulk.. 82mm wide reversible blades are cheap.. I use them for cleaning up the face on pallet wood to expose any metal I've missed then clean up with a hand plane if it's clear.. I like the...

    Jammed Record 53E vice.

funny you should mention the end plate upside down.. thats what was making mine hard to open after I put it back on the wrong way up.. found it strange they didn't design it to work both ways

    Record vices

I've used two bits of pitch pine from a pew I reworked.. as others have said sacrificial and soft enough to not mark the work.. I mounted them both first then planed them to bench height.. My bench is used for everything not just woodwork so it has three removable panels on top of it made of...

    Oilstones advice

No I mean the 6" grinding disc is in a drill stand and my chisel is being ground on the side of the wheel not the edge.. thus gives me a flat grind as the disc is horizontal not vertical..

    Don't laugh... it worked..

Thought I'd show my first Lathe.. I have always been of the mind set that my hobby shouldn't cost anything but sometimes getting what you want takes time to come true.. A little outlay may be needed but should be recouped over time.. So I bought an old Stanley Bridges Drill attachment that...

    Oilstones advice

This might be a bit long.. sorry.. When I was 16 (1983) I got offered a place at The school of Furniture in Manchester.. (central collage) I was excited to go but my Mum and Dad were separated and I was living on a friends sofa and had zero cash.. I'd told my Uncle and he had told My Dad as I...

Well it's been a while.. a death, two bouts of covid , and an old house that needed work soaked up a lot of my time.. used a shed load of pallets to build my new kitchen.. came out quite nice and very cheap.. I like cheap.. lol

Where did I see this workshop security????

I've layered dacron and rebar mesh inside my doors to jamb blades and drills.. I have an Abus granite padlock on the outside and an alarm.. (130db) when the door is opened you only have a few seconds to silence it with a remote key but on the inside I have chain attached to both doors and a...

No more boring people with tales of draw making... They are all done.!!! Well just one small post about them then they are all done.. So I was waiting until the next supply of handles arrived which they did this morning.. As soon as I got home from work I went in the Bunker to finish...

    It's about time I did a refit..

There will be more blue paint.. I collect record tools so I use a lot of blue getting them to look right..lol And I warm the cans before use to make them work better.. There is a guy on another forum (GL) who said that it does not matter how many jobs you have to do.. as long as you do one a...

    It's about time I did a refit..

Not too much to report this week.. It's been heavy going at work so I've been getting home late.. I have managed to get all the boards cut ready for the last two draw units along with the pigeon hole shelves to go inside my main bench where all my powertools will have their own hole to live...
