    Loose Tongue in Groove Boards

9mm deep grooves so 18mm wide tongue, minimum 2mm gap between boards which gives the tongue at least 2mm clearance. Tongue not too tight and give it a coat of whatever you are going to finish the gate with before you assemble it.

    Anybody own a holiday let?

Funnily enough I have been over in Whitby today at a friends 'second home', they say it's looking like it will be going on the market as Scarborough council are going to be one of the first in the country to bring in a 100% premium on holiday home council tax bills.

    Anybody own a holiday let?

Thank you for the replies, despite all the negative feedback I'm still thinking about it  My ex is the type who would love doing the management, selling, social media type stuff needed for a holiday let and I will happily do the change overs etc. The plan would be to hopefully still do...

    Home library

I agree a 4 rows of holes on 32mm centres does look flat pack but you can just put holes where the shelf is going to be and then add more holes later if needed. I normally use sockets in the holes and the Banjo type supports, these tend to suit the style of work I do but it does depend on what...

    Home library

I guess it depends on the look you are going for but have you considered putting some of the shelves on pins/pegs, would make things easier and be more flexible?

    Multico tm scribes

This brings back memories, used those blocks on my old Multico when I had it, the most used bottom block had cutters at a 9 degree angle for EJMA casement windows. Wasted a fortune upgrading the machine to modern blocks and fitting DC brakes as not long after the business had to close down :(

    Anybody own a holiday let?

Just looking at ideas for the future as my knees, shoulders and elbows can't keep up this joinery thing for much longer. My ex and I still own the house I currently live in (never got divorced, it's all too complicated!) and we think it would make a great holiday let, it's 4 bedroom, full of...

    Hidden magnets for cabinet doors.

I'm making some cabinets for a customer and they want to use hidden magnets to hold the doors closed. The cabinet doors in their utility room have what look like knock in magnets (which are far from hidden!), this is the kind of thing they are after but I'm sure we can do better. The doors...

    Blum hinges

Quick back of a fag packet type sketch while having a coffee, don't know if it helps. 1. Overlay hinge made to look inset by having the end panel level with the face of the door. 2. Inset hinge. 3. Inset hinge on a thicker mounting plate or block of wood.

    Panelling/Skirting board Question!

Possibly over thinking it, some people might think it's wrong if the panel sections above the skirtings are different heights......

    Blum hinges

I think inset look better, you can easily make overlay look like inset by adding a frame around, having end panels that finish level with the front of the doors or if it's built in having scribed fillets finish flush with the front of the doors. Butt hinges suit more traditional styles but...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Finished off a panelling job in a customers kitchen today, this banquette seating was part of it, everything is going to be painted dark green, quite a brave choice but I think it will look great. Decorator starts tomorrow, I will post some more photos when it's all finished.

    Integrated fridge with inset doors?

@Joshjosh that is great, good to know it can work, thank you. The door gap was one of my concerns but sounds like if I use the sliders it won't be an issue 👍 @niall Y dishwashers are always a pain to integrate because of plinths etc, hiding it behind a door would be much easier, I might...

    Integrated fridge with inset doors?

I've got a kitchen build coming up, it's a traditional style with face frames/inset doors and needs to incorporate an integrated fridge freezer, I'm not sure on the best way to make this work? For the fridge freezer the customer isn't keen on the method that people use where a face frame is...

What is a proper jointing technique?

Sometimes when dealing with bowed boards you can get one side nice and flat using the surfacer (jointer) only to find when you put it through the thicknesser it comes out bent again. I think when surfacing it's best to keep flipping the board, alternating between taking a bit off the ends of...
