    not finished yet but yes the wood is plain but it sanded well so i coloured it then lacquered it i think it looks ok wife likes it so i guess thats ok.Will be attaching an oak foot to it total work time around 4 to 5 hours maybe less i do not watch time.hope you like it.

    3 years none smoking should of just kept my vapour box and kanthal wire would of worked a treat i could make coils all day long so simple looking at bench power units look a bit fancy.i will just sick some kanthal on a couple of 18650 batteries will burn a house down. i used to vape at 30 watts...

    hi all thinking of making a pyrography pen and psu.does anybody know if this psu would work VARIABLE PSU Input - 230/240v Output 2v - 15v DC 1.5Amp Max or am i totally of the mark.Any input would be great.

    great info thanks as markings not that bothered really if it is boring i will just add some colours to it then lacquer it should do the job.i will do a funky dye job on it then ping makes all the difference.

    if you also search alder bark images looks nothing like alder lol so funny.o well its wood long as it dries ok in the kiln and finishes ok and brings me 30.00 minimum i will be happy nice to put a name of the wood to an item.its that white i call it sycamore lol

    looked at a lot of images for aspen and none look like what people are saying this is elder (does that make sense did in my head)

    turned a bowl from it was quick and pretty easy sealed with pva in kiln should sand well looking at it no tear out but wet so not expected.should sand well with 40 grit first hit then up to 600 then cut out a slot give it somebody as a yarn bowl turned a bit like sycamore get all my lumber free...

    going by what i have read online sounds like alder,as far as turning it i will rough turn it kiln it then blast it with 40 grit power sanding and sanding sealer usually sorts things out lol

    hi all i use both chestnut sanding sealer and melamine lacquer,Question i usually dilute 50/50 to both using this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221208518243? ... EBIDX%3AIT but i found this and wondered would it make a real difference only its like 8 times as much for extra £8 ish...

    just spoke to them again they are really not interested i checked had it 1 month so i said i want a new one i am not prepared to wait no joy at all very annoyed,i also said its a poor design and using casting on the scroll was not the best idea but to me seems like it falls on death ears.lesson...

    nice info thanks clearly see the carrier difference on the axminster chuck as you stated if it only locates on 3 scrolls there will be issues or even 2 1/2 scrolls i cant say as i cant move the jaw holders jammed in place.To say i am annoyed is an understatement.

    couple shots of kiln temp is a little low bit cold over night i think,usually up around 115/120 f.sometimes i get splitting in bowls which can happen even with air drying this is why i use resin then there is a lot less waste.the bowl in the top the big one is 14" diameter.

    Well i put it round back of shed i hate the process of cutting blanks, but when i do i cut out the pith end up with couple of blanks i then rough turn them into usually bowls and put them in my diy kiln an old freezer and a bulb,usually they dry within 2 weeks then finish them.
