Advice on using an MFT to cut full sheets

I did this when I cut the interior ply and OSB for my man-cave. Cutting to tape measure lines was accurate enough for building work because the framing isn't 100% accurate.

Workshop improvements Vs actually making stuff

I don't think it matters what you make in your shop as long as you're enjoying doing it. Obviously this doesn't apply if you're doing it for money, but if it's a hobby don't feel guilty about where you spend the time.

Mafell Track Saw flip up guide rail

I've got the MFT and have given up on using the hinged rail in favour of using dogs because there is too much slop on the pin on the nearside end of the system. There are aftermarket solutions to this slop but it seems like when you've spent all that money it should just work. I've been...

    Axminster ts250m fence

I bought the right hand extension table to get the fence rail. Do they perhaps have the right hand extension kit in stock?

Setup for a beginner - really long shopping list

Have you considered the noise? Neighbours can get very unhappy at the high-pitched shriek of a router at night and over the weekends or if your compressor fires up at 2am. I designed for this in building my man-cave by putting 100mm rock wool in the walls and ceiling and facing the doors and...

Mystery Clamp - Anyone know where I can get more?

Looks like it came from a desk lamp perhaps an anglepoise lamp.

    Best jack plane

I've got a 51/2 Quangsheng. I love it. It's the plane I use most frequently even though I've got a handful of 4s a 5 and several others.

Best place to buy kitchens in the uk.

I've got the same kind of floor in my house. I put laminate from B and Q down on top of 5mm foam (Diall 5mm Extruded polystyrene foam Laminate & solid wood flooring Underlay panels | DIY at B&Q). The underfloor was very dodgy but the laminate flooring has held up OK for 5 years so far.

    Air extraction for small workshop

I suffer from allergies so I am a bit paranoid about dust. I started with a bathroom extractor but it didn't do much. I've currently got a Record 400 aircleaner mounted under the ceiling and a 350mm extractor fan (Industrial Ventilation Extractor Metal Axial Exhaust Commercial Blower Plate Fan...

Anyone got a Record Power TS250C-PK/A

I've got an Axminster TS200 which I bought in 2015. I really don't like it for a number of reasons I won't go into here. I've also got a bandsaw, mft, kapex and tracksaw (I wasn't married when I started my tool collection). I could probably do without a table saw but it's convenient to have. I...

    63mm Dust Extractor???

I forget to open the blast gates and the power crushed the bag cage under my filter. These things suck like a beast! Did you have a blockage somewhere?

    63mm Dust Extractor???

I bought the DX4000. I wish I'd bought the DX5000 as emptying the 4000 is a pain. I ended up buying a 100m cyclone with a plastic bag under it from Axminster. It'd have been cheaper to get the DX5000 first time.

    Boating for fun

I've been sailing for about 10 years. I absolutely love it and have worked up from a small plastic boat to a high-speed one man catamaran (that dumps me into the water frequently). I recommend joining a sailing club. My club (Gurnard Sailing Club) offers all sorts of training at a fraction of...

    Google Ads

I do Google Ads full time, most of my clients run smaller businesses. Happy to discuss the pros, cons and potholes with a fellow woodworker. If you want to stalk me a little I've written a lot about Google Ads from a business perspective at www.pete-bowen.com

    Wood for Countertop / Bar

I recently did something similar by cannibalising £40 dining table from a charity shop. There is a warehouse size charity shop near me filled with furniture just waiting to be turned back into planks. The dining table had a 40mm thick top made from glued together strips of beech (i think). Cut...

    Help identifying bronze (age) plane

That makes sense and matches the name on the casting. I'm not going to sell it, it's a part of the family history even if they don't yet appreciate it. It's currently on the mantlepiece but wifey has raised her eyebrows so it'll need to go back to the man-cave soon.

    Help identifying bronze (age) plane

Thanks. The iron is by Record so I guess it's aftermarket. I sharpened it so it could once again feel the caress of wood against it's brass cheek. I'll give it a proper go today.

    Help identifying bronze (age) plane

Hi. Can anyone identify / date this plane please. It belonged to wife's grandfather and possibly great-grandfather - both of their names appear to be engraved on the side. It's the size of a Stanley No 4. The body is bronze or brass. It's got PROV PAT cast in behind the frog - between the...
