hawthorne is a hard wood producing richly vivid grain,no two pieces are the same, it is as nice as any walnut if you can get the logs big enough,i made the children some rounders bats some years ago, although theyve taken a bit of a beating they still look like ornamental pieces, good stuff

i dont know what wood it is/i done some similar stuff to the goblet in hawthorn,that too had gorgeous figuring, has the bowl been finished in any way?keep up the great work , and keep an eye out for some more freebies, just be carefull with the wet stuff,can get some nasty rashes,all the best

i must admit i had a record power dml 24, with all the bits for a while and ran it for about 18 hours a day, it wasnt the heaviest lathe/quite a light weight, but never failed,

I used to turn tons of wet wood, it dries warped ,and usually splits,you can boil the wood, for a few hours, nuke it in the microwave etc, theres lots of black art involved,but for beginners its a great way of learning what the tools are for,it is harder to get a good finish but plenty of...

hi all, my record lathe has gone, it was fully loaded with the swivel head(which im glad to say was well sorted out) bowl rest and 180 tool rest,with standard tool rest, a Darwen,lad had a good mess on it and decided it was what he wanted,

yes and keep the wire wool out of the way when sharpening tools, wow does that stuff burn hot and slow,a few stray sparks gnited mine from across the shed, the misses thought i was electing a new pope,didnt have a clue till she hammered on the door,its a good job i didnt play deaf.(that time)

yes just make sure youve got the old mask on,have you tried hawthorn, its lovely wood to turn cuts as smooth as cheese,a bit hard to come by but you get great twisted grain , box wood,s nice too,without the expense of american hardwoods.

yes ive let them know ,it only needs the sticker kit- twice last week ,/tuesday/they mailed me on friday to say they,d look into it this week!!?? why do they bother?how much can a sticker kit be?

quick bandsaw tip, the rear blade profile is square isnt it! take the corners off and see how this improves the cut,

some woods dont take oils too well, others lavish it, ive used naturally oily or resinous woods which repel the stuff, check first, good luck
