Rose arch; build or buy ?

Thanks guys. i found an arch that I like but not the price. £400 plus Vat and delivery so £900 or so for the two I need. The joints aren't complex so i think I'm going for the made by me option. And I like the challenge of bending and glueing the curved top; just not sure what wood to use for...

Rose arch; build or buy ?

I'm looking to make or buy two timber rose arches for our garden, one to go at the top and one to go at the bottom of a set of not very attractive concrete steps. The steps rise approx 800 mm and extend for some 1800mm in total length I'd like them to be at least as wide as the steps which are...

Very interested to see this - I have a similar project about to start. For my own study. Will be the biggest thing I've ever tackled as I am very much a beginner. Ant tips on joints and scribing most welcome.... Shelves under a sloping roof and surrounding a window. Overall size 4.3 by 2.15...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Something like that yes. No hinge but the two part lid pivots round the pin. The trick has to be to move the bottom part of the lid away from the raised notch and then the top of the lid locks it into place. Thats the theory i think but how to do that. maybe I need to post a video /

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Some of the things on here are superb, way above my skill level and this is a great thread to scroll back through for inspiration. This isn't something I made but I'd like to make it whole again . A gift from my father some fifty years ago, but I can't remember how to close the magic Matchbox...

    Keto diet

Interesting thread. I went keto three years ago and am very happy with it. Felt so much better and got rid of a couple of conditions I had had for a few years, persistent cough, and excema particularly. 9kg weight loss and flabby tummy went which I was pleased about. Like everything, e.g...

    1962 Meddings Dril-tru Drill Press (Mk2 9373/LT/II) light restoration

Thats superb work and great inspiration for others , thank you for sharing Now you've got a well made and fully restored British pillar drill. Only wish I was better at and had the confidence to tackle the many steps you describe and show. I have a smaller basic NuTool CH10 and a Burgess small...

Joints for a set of shelves ?

Thanks for that Peter. I'm in awe your skills. In my beginners world , biscuits are things you eat, dominoes I play with , and kreg joints sound like dodgy pubs. i really like your idea of making an adjustable template. I'm sure mt gable walls aren't symmetrical and I will need to scribe any...

Joints for a set of shelves ?

My next project is two pairs of shelves against the gable walls of a loft study, so the tops follow the 30 degree roof slope. The shelves will be against the cavity external walls. Early sketches attached 1:10 scale on A3 sheets. And are to carry personal files and ring binders and a...

    Viceroy Sharpedge

Thanks all. I'll make sure to check the stone for flatness as well as wear when I see this net week. Craig , can you explain what you mean by "grinds slightly concave". I'm new to mechanised sharpening and have only ever sharpened by hand on traditional oilstones and still have loads to learn

    Viceroy Sharpedge

Thanks Phil, any tips as to how I can judge the condition of the stone please ? I guess if it feels ridiculously smooth , its well past its best. Rough to touch presumably better. I guess it should be flat and uniform too ?

    Viceroy Sharpedge

Hallo all. I've been offered one of these, not sure of all the details yet but am told its a TDS 12/16 model. I gather its a powered rotary grinding wheel using oil to lube the stone for sharpening chisels, plane blades etc. Anybody got one or know much about these please ? i had hoped for a...

    Shed Insulation question.....

There are better alternatives to Kingspan, better as in easier to fix and thermally more efficient. i'm halfway through insulating and cladding my 4m by 5m log cabin. Solid 44mm walls interlocking "logs". For the wall insulation, I used Actis Boost R Hybrid stapled to horizontal 2 by 1 battens...

    Protecting oak sleepers

Thanks for replies so far guys. Think I might avoid creosote based on those. Wondering whether i can get bulk tins 5 litres of other compounds, like the one you mentioned Unicorn. i see that on Amazon - thanks for the link- but seems they may not post to me - I live on an island. I guess I'm...

    Protecting oak sleepers

Not quite sure where to post this but here goes. I'm about to build retaining walls of about 800mm high with 2.4 metre long lengths of oak sleepers along two sides of my timber log cabin garden building. Bought half a dozen sleepers last week at auction and see that a couple of them show signs...

Sip 01446 12" Table saw details, repairs and review

"List your tweaks, I'm not certain on this fence as I'm able to lock it out of square easier than I'd like. Why they persist with fences that lock front and back I don't know." I had a look at the home made fence referred to above. Definitely a well thought out and neat item but I think beyond...
