Where to put water bar in cill

Hi there, quick question. Where should the water bar in a door cill go in relation to the rebate and seal on the jambs? Hard up against the rebate? Or should it be stepped back a little behind the seals? Thanks.

    Door frame for Check reveal

Basically the rebate formed in brickwork to take a sash window or door, so that the frame sits behind the front course of bricks. At least that's what it's called in these parts ...

    Door frame for Check reveal

I need to make a door frame to go in a traditional check reveal and am wondering about what the standard dimensions would be. I have allowed 50mm for the width of frame that is visible, I'm wondering how much more is generally added for the rebate. Im thinking another 50mm, is that about right...

Box sash windows in cavity walls

Turns out to be pretty straightforward. Building Control happy for us to make up the check reveal using the cavity closers, or to do a block work return and simply foam up to the cavity closer or block work to hold them in place.

Box sash windows in cavity walls

I don’t know re building control, I assumed there would be a way, are you saying that it’s no longer possible to fit box sash’s to new buildings because the regs won’t allow? That would be sad 😞

Box sash windows in cavity walls

Hi there I'm trying to figure out you fit box sash windows into new cavity walls—in particularly walls built under the new regs which have a 150mm cavity. Excuse my ignorance about this. Also please excuse by builders ignorance—he doesn't want to fit sash windows anyway (waste of money mate!)...

    Ground Beams — Shambles

I really appreciate people taking time to comment on this, thank you. I do know that the rebar was ordered and bent specifically for this job. The Jalite is product called Claymaster, which, according to their website, is designed to deform under heave, and was specified in engineers drawings...

    Ground Beams — Shambles

Thanks everyone, here's one more picture of the bottom of the trench. How does it look? The idea I think is that the pink heave protection (Jablite Claymaster) is intended to act as the formwork for the bottom (Jabliite's product page says this is OK and part of the point of the product). I'm...

    Ground Beams — Shambles

Thanks for your replies, Garden Shed Projects—they are using a deformable polystyrene product on the inside edges of the beams (which can be seen in the picture, much of it now broken) to allow for ground heave (nothing is specified for the outside edge) ...

    Ground Beams — Shambles

Hello, This is a question for any builders on the forum, opinions gratefully received. I need to have a chat tomorrow with the person who produced this shambles in my garden (sigh) which is supposed to be the foundation for an extension (it is heavy clay soil with trees hence the pile and...
