    Chuck jaws standard/interchangeable?

Thats’s great detail, thank you for taking the time to photograph these and explain the differences.

    Chuck jaws standard/interchangeable?

Thank you, that does indeed look the same.

    Chuck jaws standard/interchangeable?

Mine is a bit smaller. If if close the chuck jaws with the current working jaws in place the mounting spigots are clearly not round (too close). If I refit the working jaws, close them, and then remove them, the out side diameter of the mounting spigots is 43mm and the inside diameter is 32mm...

    That sounds promising.

    Chuck jaws standard/interchangeable?

That’s an idea. I know Michael personally so I’ll maybe pop round next time I‘m over on Orkney Mainland with my chuck, or maybe just one of the jaws, for comparison.

    Chuck jaws standard/interchangeable?

Thank you for your replies. Here are some photos I’ve just taken. The jaw screw holes are 18mm apart (centres) and the locating ring on the jaws is 5.25mm wide.

    Chuck jaws standard/interchangeable?

Good Morning, I have a four jaw chuck for my lathe with removable jaws but it doesn’t have any marking on it to indicate make/model. I‘d like to buy some different size jaws for it but wonder if these are standardised at all in terms of fitting. I imagine this is probably wishful thinking on...

Work in progress Clydesdale and pony

Thanks Andy, yes you're right the motorhome is the best/worst thing we've ever bought! It's sure had some use this year and pretty much taken up all my spare time. Phill

Work in progress Clydesdale and pony

The cushion sander has a mandrel so needs to be held in a chuck. In a perfect world I would get a chuck adapter for my bench grinder and mount it on that but as it stands I use it in my drill press. I also make my own sanding mops which I used to make with the sanding sheets held together with...

Work in progress Clydesdale and pony

It's looking good Andy. I can completely relate to your impatience with painting the harness. I often apply a bit of finish to cut out pieces whilst doing the initial assembly as I can't wait to get an idea of how it will look. It doesn't matter as it will get sanded off anyway when the pieces...

That's that then. Well, it is in our house  Always a good plan. I have some boards that I have prepped and finished with the different stains that I use to see how they look (as they're different on different woods. As for the finishes, and I know I should have mentioned this the first...

    Clydesdale and pony tips wanted

Sorry for late reply, I've been away. I cut both of mine but looking back and reading Brian's comments I agree that shaping might be a better approach and will definitely give that a bash if I make another. Clamping the piece is a good tip too as it removes the chance of stabbing one's hand...

I've read all sorts too and ended up thoroughly bamboozled. You're right the finishing forum will definitely leave you thinking. Everyone has their own methods and will advise this and that over one or the other. I think the best advice at the end of the day is to take your own counsel...

It comes as boiled. Actually, it isn't boiled at all, rather, it has a drying additive added to reduce it's drying time. It is generally used in preference to raw linseed oil. You should find both readily available at most DIY stores. I think Wilko even stock it. Again, commonly available at...

Lovely job Andy. I really like the wrinkles, they really bring the subject to life. Try experimenting with a home made finish that I use quite a lot - one third each of - white spirit, boiled linseed oil, and pretty much any gloss varnish (except water base of course). This is a very thin...

Welsh Dragon Intarsia - Private Commission

I think that would work very well as a scrollsaw pattern. You could resize it to your desired size in photo editing software such as Photoshop. If the original image is very small you may get some pixelation if the enlargement is great but it shouldn't matter for use as a pattern. Regards...

Here, for your comments, is a Welsh Dragon intarsia that I recently finished. It was a private commission so I wanted the customer to have receipt of it before posting here. Regards Phill

    scrollsaw table

Given your simple set up (no insult intended) why not just put a brick, or piece of timber under the rear end of your table to tilt it and see how it feels. I know that it won't be dead stable and possibly suffer a bit of vibration at some speeds but it should be good enough to try out the...
