    Machinery mover near Southampton?

I’ve bought a Tom Senior light vertical miller, like this one: Price to get it to me, if on a pallet, is just £130. Unfortunately it’s not, so I’m looking for someone to at least palletise it for onward shipping. Access is driveway/garage type affair. Help available on site. Weight about...

    Fixed steady for Boxford AUD

Not much on the usual sites, but I did see this: http://www.hemingwaykits.com/acatalog/High_Capacity_Fixed_Steady.html They don’t say exactly what kit is needed to assemble it. Are they any good, and can they be made with a lathe and drill press? Alternatively, does anyone know of a fixed...

    Brazing cast iron

I have a small crack in my spindle moulder fence, which is cast iron. I’d usually use the stick welder with Nikko rods, but fancied a go at brazing. What’s a suitable rod and flux to use? I have some general purpose brazing flux on order. Torch is an oxypropane cutting setup.

For Sale SCM Minimax T50 spindle moulder with power feed

2003 model. In very good condition. Selling because it’s more machine than I really need. I have an old Cooksley to replace it. Main features: - 4kW/5.5hp 3 phase - 30mm shaft - Sliding table - Tilt - Europa 8 speed power feed. Rollers in reasonable nick, but starting to show age. - 4 speeds...

For Sale Router spindle for Wadkin BRS

Takes 5/8” bits (several supplied, either Sagar or Monninger branded), which lock with a grub screw. I’m not sure what the larger spindle is for. I’ve been told this is quite a rare thing, so £200, but sensible offers considered.

    For Sale Wadkin pressure springs

3/4” dia. pin on the pair, and 1” on the single (not sure if this one is a Wadkin). £60 ono for the lot.

    Withdrawn Wadkin adjustable trenching cutter

Cutting circle just over 9”. Width adjustable from about 3/4” to 1.5”. Bore 1 5/8” but bushed down to 30mm. Good used condition with plenty of meat on the knives and nickers. Appears to be for the CD model crosscut saw. £150 ono. I’ll leave it advertised on here and TWH2 for a week or so...

    Metalworking lathe buying advice

In the process of doing up woodworking machines, and doing other general stuff eg car repairs, I’ve often thought ‘a lathe could do that’. Things like making up bushings and spacers, replacing threaded parts, making handles, custom BSW bolts to replace that one that’s missing... I’ve thought up...

    Flycutting alloy spindle moulder fences

The two fences are about 18”x5”, and have been bent by the cutterblock at some point. Would anyone be willing to shave them back to parallel for me? This would be a standard paid job, not a favour. Machine is an SCM T110 and there’s plenty of meat on the fences. Cheers

Wadkin BRA - 3ph motor overhaul and star point extraction

The front bearing was running a little warm, and the grease channel appeared to be blocked, so I thought I’d strip the motor down and, while I was in there, extract the star point to enable star/delta dual voltage use. For some reason, I only have some pics of the reassembly, but hopefully it...

Wadkin BRA - play in wedge lock

Here is the machine: And here is the 45-90-45 locking mech There is rotational play in the arm even when the wedge locking lever is firmly located, and this is the case for all three positions, even the rarely used left mitre. So I think the problem is in the lever wedge, not the column...

    Dewalt/B&D radial arm saw

Would anyone knowledgable about these things be willing to look at a listing for me? I can’t see a model number to research it, and would like to know if it’s any good for the price and any pitfalls. Ebay link will follow if I’m allowed to post it. Many thanks

    3-tree table with cabriole legs

I wanted to use some more of the timber I’d planked up with the chainsaw mill 2 years ago, and have a go at cabriole legs: Legs are larch, aprons beech, top birch. I did the legs in standard fashion on the bandsaw, as described in ‘Cabinetmaking and Millwork’ by Feirer. Try as I might, I’m...

    Replacing panels in a door

I’ve been asked to replace the top two panels in this door, because they’re cracked: The door will be painted, so plywood panels will be ok. What is the best way to go about this? As far as I can see, options are: 1. Knock the stiles off and replace the panels from the side. 2. Rout the...

    Frezite spindle moulder tooling

I bought this on ebay recently: It’s for cabinet door making. I can stack the top three cutters to make a single scribe, but the bottom two cutters don’t make a corresponding profile (although it’s close). Can anyone tell me how to use it?

    Wet sharpening system advice

This will be used for: Hand tools, planer/thicknesser blades Kitchen knives Slaughter/butchery knives Occasional home-made knives The machine of choice seems to be a Tormek. The cheaper ones look like they’d do the job, but after-sales service and spares is obviously not as good. Second-hand...

    Metal tool chest recommendations

Looking for one of these to replace my saggy Stanley tool bag. It’ll be used for household jobs, wiring, plumbing and working on cars. This one caught my eye: It’s a bit big - 6 drawers would do me - but I like the removable tray and large space in the top. It also comes with fitted drawer...

    Making a cleaver

I would be grateful for your thoughts on this cleaver blank I’ve made: It’s cut from a log harvester chainsaw bar, and has been annealed and roughly shaped. Next to it is my 6” boning knife for a size reference. It weighs just over 1kg, and feels just right to me (I do lots of home butchery)...

    Charging for furniture

Someone likes this coffee table I made, and wants me to make them one: Excuse the oily background - my bench gets gearboxes, cylinder heads, electrical items etc. on it as well as woodwork. That’s the piece of plywood I use to protect the surface from filth. How much would you charge for it...

    Wadkin RBD planer

Does anyone know details of the motor fitted to these? I’m looking at one for sale, which appears to be unmodified, and three phase. I have three phase, but it would be a lot cheaper to run it from a VFD. I’ve messaged the seller about the motor rating plate, but as with 50% of these cases they...
