    Metal joinery pieces for furniture

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone knows a place to buy decoratively styled metal joinery hardware. What I have in mind at the moment is something to suspend a platform from underneath a table using a nice elegant wire connector. Using wood for this kind of suspension will not fit with what I...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Thank you :). Been waiting 5 months to reach this point after I started with the structure. It will be nice to make something that is not the workshop or for the workshop!

    Recess for a 2100mm hinge.

OK< here are the pics. Sorry about the wacky order, not sure how to re-order them. The router cur far too deep, my inexperience with it largely at fault, but I am not happy with the depth gauge on the router either, it feels really flimsy. It just so happened that my scrap hardboard brought...

    Recess for a 2100mm hinge.

Yea pine gets all pasty really quick on rotating bits. Good tip. I am cutting the recesses today and the wall mounted timber is quite warped. My biggest routing job to date has been cutting a plate recess in my router table... I managed to pull that off after a few hiccups and two part wood...

    Recess for a 2100mm hinge.

Thank you. The advice on making the recess full length is good. I just made the bench last week (had a ton of other stuff to do before it) and the first foldaway leg. I guess I will be on to doing the hinge this week. I invested in a router for other reasons and I will use it here. Although...

    Recess for a 2100mm hinge.

I haven't proceeded yet as the timber is to be delivered on the 14th and have a few jobs to do before I can work on the furnishings. Very innovative Ed, like it. Very good suggestion also Eric... Will consider it strongly. In terms of how I plan to do this, I have taken the plunge and got...

    Recess for a 2100mm hinge.

I have thought about it but I am not too experienced with power tools and not really liked the videos showing recess cutting for hinges with routers.

    Flooring suggestions for workshop

Thanks, but I needed something a bit less expensive (and prettier) than those.

    Splitting power in shed

I used the suggested consumer unit and wired the workshop with a coil circuit for the sockets and a parallel circuit for the lights. I got in touch with the electrician AJB recommended - he was happy with the work I did and will finish it off by connecting the armoured cable to the main fuse...

    Flooring suggestions for workshop

Just an update. I bought, from Homebase, oak finished self adhesive vinyl planks at 9.99 for 1.95m2 (not bad considering the prices I'd seen online). I will be lining the floor with hardboard and then sticking this down on top.

    Recess for a 2100mm hinge.

Hello! I can do normal sized door hinge accurately and neatly and it is the same principle for fitting this beast of a hinge I have to make a fold down worktop. I am not working with expensive timber or anything, I just want to be as careful as I can since it will take a bit of effort and time...

    Flooring suggestions for workshop

Thanks for the input... Bit to think about and have gone off the carpet idea. Was looking at interlocking tiles (vinyl) after reading the comment here but a bit prohibitive in terms of price for the good ones. Talking 240 quid (ex VAT) for these: http://www.bigdug.co.uk/mats-flooring-c ...

    Flooring suggestions for workshop

Hello, Looking for some suggestions on flooring for my workshop. The floor is thick chipboard as is and needs something over it to protect it (and I do not like the hollow walking on planks sound it makes). So I need to protect it and dampen the tread sound. I was thinking of using some sort...

    Splitting power in shed

Thanks for the feedback guys. Much appreciated. Here's some more info just to put a couple of minds at rest. The cable which currently runs to the workshop was for the old shed the previous owner had. The cable itself is up to scratch, what isn't is the power source, which is a socket in the...

    Splitting power in shed

Hello all, I have a workshop shed and an armoured power cable running under the ground to it. I want to split the power for sockets and a light. Anyone done this before? What did you use to split the power to go to a light switch and sockets? Many thanks.

    Kitting out my workshop

Thanks especially for this advice. I have now been on a 5 day intro training course and really enjoyed it - would really recommend it to any newbie or anyone considering taking this up as a serious hobby. Having done the intro, it is obvious to me now that I will need very few specific...

    Kitting out my workshop

Not at all Bob - many thanks. i am going to use this thread as guidance for getting started and all input is appreciated. I have to agree with you. I find that many old school British items excel in quality. I hope one day soon we can see quality British made hardware return to the fore.
