    Scheppach HM0 Solo thicknesser issues

Sorry to hijack, but can I ask a quick related question. Should the blades and underside of infeed/outfeed rollers be in the same plane or should blades protrude a fraction? I am having to force timber through thicknesser, but when I checked today with a flat edge, the rollers run 1-2mm lower...

    Metal Bandsaw Restoration

This is amazing. I haven’t been online for a while, but I finished up the saw last week. Got new motor, pulley, belt and nvr switch. Got everything going which was great, but the saw was throwing blades every now and again, couldn’t figure why. I haven’t implemented it yet, but I imagine exactly...

    Metal Bandsaw Restoration

Ended up getting a tube of Locktite sealant. A bit like a tube of toothpaste, and clamp it close. Haven’t used it before but I assume once I use it, the seal is only good for one use. If it’s opened again does that destroy the deal?

    Metal Bandsaw Restoration

Another question for you. Is it possible to make a gasket from silicone or something similar? I need a gasket for the gearbox to prevent oil leaking out, the old one is soft plastic, and it’s leaking. could I run a bead of silicone around the edge, leave it dry and then clamp the lid of the...

    Metal Bandsaw Restoration

Here are some pics of the progress for anyone that is interested. Got the saw for free, as it was on its way to the scrap yard. Not in bad condition really, but missing a motor and coolant pump and associated switches. Probably looking at €300 to get it back to good working order. Link below...

    Metal Bandsaw Restoration

Thanks lads, that makes perfect sense. Should be able pick up a small pump and rig up a baffle in the reservoir. My next question, if your not sick of answering them for me, its a pretty basic one. I have cleaned up some surfaces and want to prevent any rust reappearing while waiting to...

    Metal Bandsaw Restoration

Changed the heading of the thread, as i have a few more questions that some might be able to help with. Need to source a pump for a coolant system for metal cutting bandsaw. Is there limitations to what can be used due to risk of filings being in the liquid? Or can i get a simple pond style...

Adventures in metalwork and machine restoration!

TF, could I be a pain in the backside and ask for your help. I’m half way through restoring this exact machine at home and there’s no motor nor pulley for the gearbox. Would there be any chance you tell me what the largest diameter is of each pulley, or are they both the same size with one inverted?

    Raising Lathe

Simplest solution often the best. Put a length of 4x3” under each leg and bolted straight down into the concrete. Thanks for the advise :)

    Raising Lathe

great stuff, thanks. Will give it a go!

    Raising Lathe

I had thought about doing that, but i assumed the timber would introduce vibration. Is that not the case? (be great if not, as thats a fairly simple solution)

    Raising Lathe

Hi, looking for advise if anyone has done similar. I am a little taller than average and i find my centre of chuck to be a little lower than comfortable. Have a Jet 1642 and want to raise it 3" off the ground. It's currently bolted into a concrete floor, which is great for reducing vibration...

Ya i was thinking about doing that. Assuming the tailstock is cast, is there any challenge/risk to drilling and tapping cast metal?
