    Lathe Upgrade suggestions

Most likely an impossibility on my budget, currently have a Record CL4 and saw a Jet 3520b in Axy and fell in love, unfortunately my wallet can not extend that far so I've been looking round at an alternative. The heft of the machine, banjo and over all build has me wanted to replace the CL4...

Ticking noise coming from motor CL4

Just an update, yes it was a loose pulley on the motor lol I had tried moving it but with the belt tension it wouldn't move, I had the belt off and sure enough it was sliding.

I know it's the right thing to do, but not feeling happy.

If your friend is the one dealing with the client then surely he should have had a good set of drawings to price it ? I can't say from a builders point of view as I work for a structural consultancy, but if we were instructed on a job like this we would have had to visit site and would have...

    Record CL2 Headstock play

I've just changed all mine, if you need any photos or help just shout. My internal lock nut came out no issue, used a piece of brass to knock it round in one of the notches. Getting the rear bearing and spindle apart was a nightmare, took a lot of persuading. Turns out the rear bearing was shot...

Onto the tenons, I hate them... Really hate them, due to the fact I cant hand saw straight xD I did the bed legs by hand then decided to goto the band saw and table saw for the slates and they came out better than I could have cut but I was still not 100% happy, a shoulder plane ? might have...

    Bed

My first major project after the workbench, i'm very much a beginner and although I'm happy with the end result there is much to improve on and many lessons to be learnt. I planed all the timber by hand, I really wish I'd had a thicknesser as I think have all your material at the exactly the...

    4' Bed Frame

Almost finished this bed, have made it out of redwood and I'm now wondering what to finish it in. Any suggestions ? I don't want a tint and want it to look natural, I was just going to put some beeswax on it but is there something else that might increase the surface protection perhaps ...

    Record cl4

I've had one for maybe a year now, bought it used. Its one of the one's made in the uk before they moved manufacture overseas. Its not been a bad machine and a couple of the niggles I have with it have been sorted on the new machines. I personally am not keen on the bed bars and want to change...

    Record CL4 Bearing

Does look like it but it wasn't, found the second grub screw on the pulley which meant I could knock off the bearing. Rear Bearing had plenty of play in it and it looks like the bronze was at the end of adjustment as the slope of the spindle was making contact with the straight part of the...
