Royal Mail - complete ban on bladed items from 22nd April

I sold a couple of axes last year, sent via UPS with their over 18 signature service, needless to say it added about a fiver to the cost and one buyer emailed to tell me they just dropped it off without signing or ID :ROFLMAO: What a racket! I've sent chisels and saws via RM before, but had no...

    Kity 419/Axy TS200 Question

Thanks for the offer bp, Yes, unless a Kity owner replies I will go down the route of shims/measuring/adjusting before making one. Just need my new blade to arrive first. Cheers.

    Kity 419/Axy TS200 Question

Hello. Was wondering if there's any fellow Kity 419 TS owners out there that could help me with a question please? I recently picked a 419 up that was missing it's riving knife, which I was able to make from photos. However it was also missing the spacer plate that holds the knife out from the...

Has anyone tried replacing viceroy bearings?

Thanks for the pics Andy. On closer inspection mine doesn't even have the hole to mount it so I'd have to look at drilling and tapping that as well. Ironically they did remember to install the machine plate reminding me to disengage the lock before starting the lathe! Once the last xmas...

Has anyone tried replacing viceroy bearings?

Thanks for a very informative thread. I think my Viceroy needs a bearing change as I'm getting the beginnings of a screeching noise when turning between centres. It's fine when turning bowls and no noticeable play in the spindle but I guess it's possible the bearings have never been changed...

First Bandsaw: Opinion on imminent Ebay Sale

I've had a 301 that I bought from someone on here, very solid machine. Again only hobby/diy use but has done everything I've asked of it, with a sharp blade of course. I've resawn oak and some walnut upto around 5" with no bother, although quite slowly! I've noticed their price seems to have...

What tools does every welder need?

I have a friend who is a welder/fabricator who never has enough clamps - He has started buying Bessey all metal F-clamps rather than more standard G-clamps. Also welding magnets, he never has enough of those. I guess it depends if he works in his own workshop or for a larger operation that is...

    Uni Education and student loans

No problem Matt... Yup whatever route he chooses you should let him know that a creative job will take a hell of a lot of work to turn into a decent career, even if you're extremely talented, so you've got to be ready for that. It's the catch 22 of needing experience to get a job but can't get...

    Uni Education and student loans

Hi Matt, I'm a freelance designer/animator who works in advertising/post-production world and went to Uni to study graphic design. Whilst I do see that it taught me the basic principles of design it did little to prepare me for my first day in a busy studio. They tried to teach the Adobe suite...

    rust prevention

I use that Liberon wax mentioned earlier which does the job, plus it has the benefit of reducing friction on my bandsaw table/fence. I do also collect any of those silica packs that they put in when you buy electrical things and chuck a few in my chisel box or drawers. Sent from my iPhone...

    Single garage - heating?

Yes I've got some old bits of carpet and underlay down by my bench which make quite a difference to foot warmth and also fatigue from standing/working all day. Also a cheap portable halogen heater from B&Q.

    Viceroy lathe...

I'd say it's more dependant on how much weight your car can carry. I have the short bed bowl turning version of the Viceroy and the main headstock section weighs an absolute ton!! Took 3 of us to lift/drag it into the back of a van. I don't think I'd try this in my car. However If you do buy...

Been playing with my new toy!

Funnily enough I've just done the same thing Mick. I found an Emco compact lathe with the extra mill attachment and loads of accessories for a good price on eBay. Not exactly sure what I'll be making yet but going to have fun finding out! Mr Pete and jimmy Diresta are partially to blame for...
