    Joke Thread 4

I believe "Punto" also has an unfortunate slang meaning in some Spanish speaking countries.

Definitely laser cut, at least from looking at the attached photo.

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Is the need for more pylons a result of EVs though? There's plenty of capacity on the grid; the issue is when that capacity is available; hence the ideas of "smart" chargers and the use of EVs as large battery stores. Agree completely re fuel duty; at some point the government will have to find...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Yep. There are always daft rules created. Just like for every sensible H&S reg that helps to protect employees, it's quite likely there will be another that's completely pointless and invented for no useful reason. Doesn't change the fact that the evidence is overwhelming that large...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Not sure about that. If governments don't get involved in legislation then corporations will make products as cheaply and easily as they can (regardless of the environment or safety of workers). Unfortunately, companies (and to some extent) "the people" do need to be led/ruled in order to stop...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

It's terrible, but then the oil industry is terrible. All big manufacturing is terrible/evil/corrupt etc. etc.

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

That's a slightly odd statement; as of course EV batteries are larger and heavier than those in regular cars... because the batteries are the main source of an EV car's power. Shockingly, fuel tanks are larger and heavier in regular cars than EVs! The other stuff; sure - small cells, nasty...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Saw that video a few days ago; the bloke waffles on for ages without actually saying anything, then eventually explains that he borrowed heavily to get an expensive car that was likely to depreciate quickly, and was then surprised it had depreciated even more after a newer version of the same...

The steak was tasty but I didn't enjoy the second bit. I don't have to do it again next year do I?

    Bending a silver steel rod?

Wouldn't SS only harden if heated and cooled quickly? That's a question as much as a statement; as I have hardened steel a few times but I'm certainly no expert.

    Need to escape/reset

I'm in no position to be able to give useful advice, but I wanted to highlight Plwm's point above; and acknowledge Stig's decision to talk about things. Not at all easy for us blokes.

    helmet and face mask

I've never checked the sphericity of my cranium, but I do agree that the clip on ear defenders aren't great. The 3M is much better in that regard.

    helmet and face mask

The Trend Airshield Pro is very good; albeit a little heavy due to the internal battery. Been cracked full in the face by a chunk coming off the lathe once and, apart from the surprise, all was OK. If you can stretch to it, the 3M Versaflo is a big step up in comfort. Fortunately yet to be hit...

Nature of the game WARNING this post contains graphic images of a hand injury

That's exactly what got me with a router table many years ago. I was considerably luckier (just one slightly trimmed thumb), but given the pain afterwards from that I don't even want to imagine what yours is like. Hope it heals as well as possible and you're back up and running soon.

Just to stir the pot, has anyone noticed...

That's the problem though isn't it; the "will" is to maintain the status quo, because the people in power (and their backers, and their mates) benefit from it.

Just to stir the pot, has anyone noticed...

That, I understand (admittedly only in layman's terms) is part of the problem. For example, if I run a business in one jurisdiction (e.g. UK), and license some technology or processes from a business in another jurisdiction I pay them a royalty/fee/percentage for that license. However, the...

    Acoustic Guitar

There are inflatable bags used for lifting; e.g. https://www.screwfix.com/p/hedgehog-easy-air-wedge-inflatable-lifting-levelling-tool-170mm-x-165mm/6548k Whether it would be suitable (or successful) I don't know.

Just to stir the pot, has anyone noticed...

True; though the problem is that as soon as you have a really simple tax system then some people will point out that it unintentionally punishes them (because they have specific circumstances that don't fit within those laws). As soon as you create exemptions for those people, others will work...

Just to stir the pot, has anyone noticed...

If the law had a loophole that allowed you to occasionally steal from children, would you do it? I suspect the answer from most people would be no; because they would consider it to be immoral (per their personal definition of what's acceptable). Certainly the tax laws are a problem; but...

Just to stir the pot, has anyone noticed...

That is ultimately the problem; unless legislation is fair worldwide, the greedy will indeed always be able to send their money somewhere nice and warm (Cayman Islands etc). The only way around that could maybe be local legislation that makes it mandatory that income from sales in thar...
