    Banggood, VAT, import duties

Just arrived. Super fast delivery, got my VAT Reciept. No fuss. Looks like a nice tool, no time to play with it today, but will report back

    Banggood, VAT, import duties

Idk Tom, I mean the innovation of this style router plane goes back to Stanley in 1884, although even they were proceeded by Preston (the Preston pattern was quite different). My rather old record router plane is an exact copy of the Stanley, this Hongdui router is slightly different (the...

    Banggood, VAT, import duties

I’m thinking of getting a router plane from Banggood. I’ve never bought from them before, does anyone have any experience with them? Are they legit? They claim all VAT and customs duties are included, is this true. Do I get a VAT invoice (I’m VAT registered)...

Mitre saw - Rutland V Makita

We used to have a Festool mitre saw, but the owner selfishly took it with him when he moved. I replaced it with a makita, and while the cuts are the same as the Festool, the dust collection is truly awful, so much so I wouldn’t buy another one. Idk what the dust collection is like on the...

    Digital Calipers

Personally I use dial Calipers. Less to go wrong, no battery to go flat and easier to read than the verniers. Axminster do a pretty decent one for around £45

Colleague smashed top of my Festool CT Mini

    WoodRat wanted

Hi Seb. I could sell you mine. I have the Woodrat and a full range of dovetail cutters. I am pretty sure I have all the bits and pieces that go with it, I’ll check at work tomorrow. It is a useful thing, but I tend to cut dovetails by hand nowadays, and all the other things it can do I generally...

    Saw stop ( USA )

I entirely agree with Jacob about 2 push sticks, indeed I think it was Jacob himself who convinced me that one was not enough. It’s awkward at first, but it’s easy to master. However I entirely disagree with Jacob about sawstop. I think it’s a brilliant technology and should be on all saws. It’s...

    Makita track with Festool ts75

I’m after a 3m (ish) track for my ts75. The makita ones are considerably cheaper than Festool. I have read threads from people who have that set up who say it’s fine, eg https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?293065-New-Festool-ts75-owner-what-track-size-to-get-Makita-track But also other...

No sliding hook on Hultafors Talmeter tape measure

I’m not “alleging” anything, I’m saying the hook doesn’t slide. This means pushed up against something will give a different reading to hooked over the end of a board, that is why tapes have the sliding hookI was posting to see if anyone had one and how they got around this, not to have a row on...

No sliding hook on Hultafors Talmeter tape measure

I mean, loads of the features look handy, especially the inside measurement thing, but if it doesn’t perform basic duties, we’ll, I’m a bit disappointed

No sliding hook on Hultafors Talmeter tape measure

Yeah, I’ve read that, but it doesn’t answer my question

No sliding hook on Hultafors Talmeter tape measure

I got given a hultafors talmeter tape measure at Xmas. The hook at the end of the tape does not slide like a normal tape, and I’m a bit confused about how to use it. With a normal tape the sliding hook is to compensate for the thickness of the hook when taking measurements when you are up...

    Makita LS1019L mitre saw problem?

Hi, does anyone have a Makita LS1019L mitre saw? I’ve noticed the last few days that the laser wobbles about when I start the saw and I’m worried that this is indicative of the shaft being loose/bent. I’m 90% sure that this is a new thing. I have replaced the blade with a new one and it is still...

    Digital callipers.

FWIW I always use dial calipers. I find the vernier scale hard to read without my glasses (and lord knows where I put them down), and unlike digi ones, the battery never goes flat. I have a mitutoyo pair, but tbh a cheaper pair would probably be fine.

    Sharpenning carving gouges

I will do, but I have been on a week long course there before, and the normal set up is that they provide the tools, and sharpen them. It's a part time school in Cambridge, very much aimed at the hobbiest making one violin. I want to make one in my workshop whilst I make one at the college 2...

    Sharpenning carving gouges

Hi, I am going on a violin making course starting tomorrow (Monday). Now I know how you guys love to argue about sharpenning, and tbh I'm completely comfortable sharpenning straight tools, I am however curious to know how you sharpen your carving gouges, both inside and outside bevel. I have a...
