    Warco CY90 swivel bandsaw

Selling my metal cutting bandsaw as it's just collecting dust in the garage. It's hardly been used at all. Any inspection welcome. Based in Milton Keynes. £135.

Charnwood W650 10'' Professional Cast Iron Table Saw

I'm admitting defeat. I've had this TS for a while but it's hardly been used as I've taken more to metal engineering work. I desperately need some space back so I'm putting it up for sale. I made a zero clearance insert for it when I first bought it, and more recently I built a substantial...

    Pre-veneered panels for DIY wardrobes

Hi, I've previously created a walk-in using the kitchens panels from Ikea to good effect, but the material wasn't exactly great to work with, and I couldn't find a good edging match etc. I'm doing another custom wardrobe, but this time wanted to use use pre-veneered panels either with a...

Beginners heavyduty(ish) workbench design on a budget.

Nice thread resurrection. It's been an excellent bench, glad I built it. Some pics and mods here: http://garage-makeover.blogspot.co.uk/2 ... bench.html http://garage-makeover.blogspot.co.uk/2 ... rades.html V

    New old bandsaw arrived

Pulled the cap which sits behind the switch rather than on the motor on this saw. Well at least it will be a cheap fix. The table can be seen in the background of the last pic in the first post ;) There's no fence though.

    New old bandsaw arrived

I got a bandsaw given to me today. It's a Dewalt and about 7 years old, but on the plus side it was free. I was about to lay out some cash to get an entry level Record, but at this price I've got to consider the DeWalt. The first issue is the motor needs a helping hand to get started i.e...

    Boarding up the garage ceiling

Hi, I want to board the ceiling of my garage, insulate, add some more lighting and use the space above for storage. The garage was build about 7 years ago and has a trussed roof. The truss floor timber measures 70mm x 35mm, and is joined over the 5.4m span with metal connector plates. The...

    Vice location

Roughly where I am them ;) It was fiddly getting the quick release mechanism re-fitted, but it was definitely worth taking it apart first. Thanks chaps.

    Vice location

yes, that's what I mean. Seems easy enough just to remove the rear jaw which is then easy to handle/attach to the bench first. I was asking if there's a reason why people are doing it 'the hard way'? ;)

    Vice location

Thanks, front left it is. Any reason not to just remove the rear jaw for fitting?

    Vice location

I want some advice where to locate my first vice on my workbench. I plan to drill round dog holes and will mainly be clamping small and medium size mdf/ply boxes as I build and finish speaker cabinets. I also plan to start some small hardwood projects and will shortly be searching for my first...

The T-bolt heads are 12mm wide in the axminster kit, but the slot hole is only 10mm!? I sheared off a few nuts from the carriage support brackets so ended up changing all the nuts/bolts/washers out to something more decent. The original washers supplied were particularly bad (rusted and too...

    I did it (Charnwood W650)

Excellent article, and magazine. It's good to hear all the same minor issues I've stumbled upon have already been identified and fixed for very little. I can't find the Axminster T bolts you mentioned though. Do you have a link? V

Thanks, I think in that case I can live without a cursor for the wider fence position. No one spotted my boo-boo? The cursor rises above the table top as a stop against the fence , but this means that the work piece can't be fed flat onto the saw table unless the piece is quite short :oops...

    I did it (Charnwood W650)

Rookie question: in what scenarios do you use the fence along it's tall edge vs short edge? I'm just wondering whether I need to make another cursor for when the fence is in the other position.

    I did it (Charnwood W650)

Machined a cursor out of some alu today. A bit superfluous perhaps but I want a machine that's accurate compared to my previous saw. Coupled with the fine-adjuster on the fence, I'm able to visually position the cursor in ~0.25mm increments now, which should be good enough for anything I need...

    I did it (Charnwood W650)

Hi John, thanks for the idea. I like that it makes the reference closer to the tape. I peeled mine off to try to realign it but in doing so managed to stretch it I think. Well it's about 1mm out over 30cm anyway, so I've just ordered a Richter self adhesive measure tape from ebay to replace.

    I did it (Charnwood W650)

Hi Roy, I spoke to a Charnwood engineer this morning and he said there were two more bolts accessible by removing the blue side plate. Sure enough I've now managed to accurately align the sliding carriage, saw blade, and rip fence to the mitre slots. Hi Stuart, yes the top is perfectly flat...
