    Festool discount

+1 for powetoolsplus...i'm just around the corner and like to pop it to oggle the festool stuff. But they do always seem a little pricey. Got my BOsch Drill/driver set from them and the warranty claim on the gearbox was resolved super quick. I like to shop local so hopefully when I can...

DW745 table saw - am i expecting too much?

A few weeks back I took the plunge and got myself a DW745 compact table saw. Having read a number of reviews and stalked some super useful threads here (thanks guys) I felt this was the perfect compromise and there seems to be a fair few folk making good use of them. I have diligently nudged...

    Planer/ Thicknesser buying advice?

If you're prepared to stretch a little I can wholeheartedly recommend the Ddewalt DW733. I've had mine for a while now and it has become one of the most used tools in my shop. I buy my lumber 'landed' and have a nice little jig to which I hot glue it so it is supported and doesn't get squashed...

Bench sanders? small combi model or a larger disc?

Does it involve any metal work or lathe work? I have a table saw, band saw, thicknesser, mitre saw and drill press, but no lathe. Was there much expense involved? Sorry for all the questions, I have no problem giving MW my money for the plans, but I want to make sure I'll be able to complete...

Bench sanders? small combi model or a larger disc?

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I currently do not have space for a lathe, but think I will get the use out of the larger disk. So I'll be having a quick look around for one on the bay first before heading over to DM. Beech, I like the look of the MW edge sander. He's a legend. It'll be a...

Bench sanders? small combi model or a larger disc?

I mainly make wooden toys and boxes, but would also like to try to build a gaming table and a sideboard. I have an array of hand-held jobbies and a 'sanding plate' similar to Custard's (na na na naaa, sorry couldn't resist as I'm a huge R&C fan!! :D) That Jet is a serious bit of kit at almost...

Bench sanders? small combi model or a larger disc?

Well hello there... Managed to save up enough beer tokens to trade in for a new piece of kit and I've been looking at getting a bench sander. Trouble is I'm not sure if the disc's on the combi models are going to be large enough (most are only 150, so that's 75mm of safe working area!) Record...

Is there an oil and wax finishes guide out there?

Thanks guys, it's kinda reassuring that it's not just me...I guess it's one of those open ended questions such as 'what is the best X?' when in fact best is relative and dependant upon so many factors including time, size, budget end use etc... But in the absence of a definitive guide, could...

Is there an oil and wax finishes guide out there?

I'm thinking ahead to the finishing of my multi hardwood stripy shelves and have become befuddled over the range of possibilities. Previously I've used Danish oil (8-12 coats) for cherry window boards that I made, but have since been told about sanding sealer (some shellac, some spirit, some...

    Gluing up question

    Gluing up question

I'm in the process of making some shelves out of scraps and offcuts of various hardwoods by gluing together lots of 6-25mm strips and am wondering whats the best method for gluing up? I'm thinking I'd use a PU glue like gorilla glue for strength, but there are around 18-20 strips in total and...

    Resaw woes...

Thanks again for the links...I'm beginning to understand a bit about the trial and error nature of blade setup. As ever a little guidance and lots of patience and practice seem to be the answer. Cheers

    Resaw woes...

Thank you guys. Daddy duties have kept me from replying, but the feedback is hugely appreciated by a novice like me!! I've been having a bit of a play today and I believe I've found the culprit to be a combination of blade position, tension and drifting thrust bearing. The thrust bearing...

just wondering if it is possible to over tension? what would the symptoms be?

    Resaw woes...

I'm pretty sure I've compensated for drift, I do this each time I move the fence...maybe I'm not doing it right?!? I have Steve's excellent dvd's on my Christmas list...as I'm currently 'between jobs' I can't afford to splash on them just yet! I will try alignment again...one thing I did think...

    Resaw woes...

Hi Guys and Gals! I've been trying to resaw some old mahogany (? I think) bench pews on my kity 613 and I'm having a nightmare trying to get it to cut straight. I've played around with the tension, tracking, guide alignment and nothing seems to help. I'm using a new 3/4" - SuperTuff Fastcut...

    DW733 Planer Knives

Cheers Marcros, The blades I need are 320 long, so those ones don't fit unfortunately. I can get unslotted HSS ones for around £10/pair...cutting slots might be an option I guess, but I wouldn't really know how to go about doing that...any tips Wizard?
