    Small metal lathe

With small lathes like the SIEG range once they are tuned up they are fine. Just treat them with TLC as the gears are plastic and other components can be fragile.

    Sketchup

I have been using Sketchup for a few years now for woodwork, metal lathe and 3D Printer work. It can be daunting although as with most software most users only use a small part of it regualarly. There are two tutorials by April Wilkerson on Youtube that I found the best introduction to Sketckup...

    Mondays Guess the Wood Contest

It did have a heavy dark stain on it before it went through the planner.

    Wolfcraft Doweling Jig

Thanks very much gentleman. Your advice has been superb. I think I can retire it to the recyling bin. The jig from Banggood looks good for use in my retirement. But would seem to be over complicated for a student. The route using a pocket hole joinery instead may be an easier option.

    Wolfcraft Doweling Jig

I work as a D&T Technician in an academy school. I have been asked to look at doweling jigs for next academic year for GCSE + A Level students. A previous teacher seems to have been inspired by Peter Millard's Youtube channel and purchased a Wolfcraft doweling jig system with the jog, drill...

    Mortising Router Bits

I'm expermenting with making tenon and mortise joints on a Rutland Router Table. I seem to have cracked the motise part with a Yonico upcut sprial bit. For the tenon I have noted the Whiteside 1304 Mortising bit seems to be popular. But would welcome any other ideas from the learned members of...

    Sharpening of Chisels (again!)

Many thanks for all your answers. It has a clarified my thoughts of what I need going forward. I think an Eclipse type honing guide (to replace the poor quality Stanley one I have currently have) and a simple jig for setting the angles should be sufficient together with a spare set of chisels...

    Sharpening of Chisels (again!)

I work in a school with a mixture of about 20 bevel and mortise chisels. This require sharpening every couple of weeks. As the there is little chance of purchasing a Tormek I have to do them by hand. I have looked at cheap sharpening systems such as those sold by Draper and Lidl and these all...

    powered router table

I brought one of these a year ago and its been superb. http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodworkin ... ent+dk2080 During the process of getting a router table I had an old Wolfcraft table which I attached Makita router too. I spent so much time messing around with setting it up. You can build a...

Frames for School Art Projects using a Compound Mitre Saw

I have been asked by the Arts Department to make picture frames for students to put their work in for display. I need to cut mitre joints. I have tried tilting a bandsaw table at 45degrees and using a hand mitre saw both of which produced fairly poor results. I have a budget of about £100 to...

    AJH Bison BN1 3-Phase Grinder

Does anybody have a manual for this machine. The company that supplies the current edition RJH Finishing are asking £20 for one. Which seems crazy as I was goign to buy replacement wheels from them for th grinder.

    Starting Out

I work in a school where I have access to a wide range of hand, power tools and machinery. I am looking to improve my woodworking skills. I have purchased "The Practical Woodwoorker" by Stephen Corbett which is very useful; and in addition subscribed to "Woodworking for Mere Mortals" on...

    EMCO Maximat V13 Lathe

The lathe is a three phase machine. So switching the wires should work. As for the chuck guard problem I guess its best to open the lathe and have a look at it. Many thanks for all your help.

    EMCO Maximat V13 Lathe

Just to clarify the lathe has an Acurmat x,y,z digital controller on top that loses power when the chuck guard is lifted. This involves having to reboot the whole lathe every-time to reuse it. Any idea what causes this?

    EMCO Maximat V13 Lathe

I have a model that is about 20 years old and hardly been used. The lathe has been moved several times and is in need for a small service and some minor electrical repairs i.e. chuck runs in the wrong direction and the whole lathe cuts out when the chuck guard is raised. Does anybody know of...
