    Elm slabs valuation £?

I was at my local sawmill last week on the hunt, elm slabs 6-7ft were priced around the £100 mark, if that helps as a guide.

Union Jubilee Lathe - 12" face plate needed.

Just about to sell my Jubilee and have a spare 12" outboard that I would sell and reduce the lathe price accordingly, not sure what a fair price is for it, and am in N. Ireland which may effect the postage cost.

    Record CL2 Headstock play

Thanks guys, I have the original manual here, sorry its not the bearing im trying to rotate, its the second lock nut that will only turn a mm either way and certainly wont tighten, i'll have another look at it tonight, will need that second locknut released if I have to replace it anyway.

    Record CL2 Headstock play

Theres definitely something not right, can loosen the top nut off, but the bearing wont rotate either way more than a couple of mm, talked to my dad who owned the lathe before me and he never adjusted it in the 15-20 years he had it, I've noticed a few witness marks on some of my stuff no matter...

    Record CL2 Headstock play

Well found the page in the manual, although could not get it to tighten to a point where I couldnt rotate the shaft and then notch it back, it did seem to take the play out of it, too tired to turn anything tonight, but will give it a good test tomorrow, thanks for the replys and apologies for...

    Record CL2 Headstock play

I can hold the chuck and move the whole thing up and down, I have the cover plate off and can see the shaft moving up and down a bit with it. Will have a look for a tightening mechanism have the manual, just never occurred to me that you could tighten it down. Cheers

    Record CL2 Headstock play

Got a small catch this afternoon that put the Lighthouse I was working on out of balance, was still secured in the jaws fine, but when I turned the lathe off noticed that I could move the headstock vertically up and down with about 1mm of play, I take it this is not the way it should be, does...

    Little ash box

I really like them, If I had to pick one, I'd go for the one on the left with the slightly thicker base, but that's just my personal favourite, they are both sweet :) and the finial is grand, no doubt it will be resting on its side the odd time being a functional piece, and strong enough to take...

    N Ireland Members

Just thought I'd say hi, im a bit further down the country near Ballynahinch Co. Down, fortunate to be close to McCalls in Clough who have a good range of Veneered MDF, and a Hardwood shed that must be 2 or 3 football fields in length and a good variety of stock. I've always found them easy to...

I'm off out now to earn a crust, drop me an email if anyone wants a few packs as i'll have no access to the forum today, I'm considering just buying them and if I have any left after sorting the forum members i'll punt them on via ebay, cant believe they are selling on Amazon for 10.99 now...

    Tealight makers dilemma

They looked end of line, a couple of boxes almost hidden inbetween the square ones with no signage, I had read your post a while ago so was surprised to see them, I'm prepared to buy the lot if theres enough interest, and will ship them out at cost, but don't want to be left sitting with a load...

    Tealight makers dilemma

Is it the Glimma Tealight holders you were looking for in Ikea, pack of 12 for £2 ? bought a load there at the weekend, they still seem to have a couple of boxes left, would be happy to pick up a few for anyone interested, & I can either post at cost or I'll be in Leeds in a couple of weeks if...

    Makers stand or make own

I made mine from U section welded up and topped with marine ply where the lathe bolts to it, good height for me and very little vibration unless I get silly. Its getting bolted to the floor when I decide on its final location, tho after moving it 3 times I'm relatively happy with where it is at...

    Wood branding

I just had one made up, the detail is amazing, cost £23, less than a week from conception to delivery, including 4 days shipping from Hong Kong, looked for it locally first but none came near price or quality wise. I opted for no handle and made my own, you can specify the thread size on the...

    A few recent turnings

Still kicking about but haven't posted any turnings in a while, so thought I'd throw a few up, going to be doing quite a few more pot pourri bowls, having problems with shrinkage and lids not fitting even when using 3 yr+ seasoned , but make sure I now leave them so I can re-turn the lid hole if...

Fixing a 10ft pole to a stone wall

Thanks for the links/info... The wall is stone and lime mortar I have used the sds to punch loads of holes through it over the years and it allways seemed quite stable... there was an existing pole which was rodded thru the wall but had to be removed as the timber beneath in had rotten out and...

Pinning a cam lid on a turned box

Thanks for all the reply's, I did my test run and I learnt a few things, I need to leave a bit more meat on the rim for stability when opened, and also that 3 segments may be a bit too much, doesn't give much in useable depth, will either have to loose the middle segment or shrink the depth of...

Fixing a 10ft pole to a stone wall

Ok random I know, after fighting with for 15 years with BT to get any sort of broadband up here I've given up, the satellite solution I currently use is pants and was recently offered wifi from a local mast. The installer came today but I need a 10ft pole to get the elevation I need, and the...

Interesting, I'm not sure i'll have enough depth in the top, but I've got a test blank on the lathe that I'm playing with before I commit to turning the bocote blanks into firewood, I will check it out tonight if I make it back into the workshop cheers.
