The design of one sided axes.

A few years ago I stumbled upon a blog entry or two by Peter Follansbee, who is an avid hatchet man himself, describing the peculiarities of those hewing hatchets: https://pfollansbee.wordpress.com/tag/side-hatchet/ Cheers Jürgen

    Cap Iron Deflection Angle.

There are certainly some interesting dynamics playing out in a plane. Here it looks like the curl is forming at the edge and at some point makes contact and - sort of- walks up the wear: https://youtu.be/c0N5pV8N1H0?t=373 Cheers Jürgen

    Funny face stamp

Yes, it rather looks like faulty stamping. Maybe it was meant to be a crown or a lily (fleur de lis). Both marks have been used by Burys/Wm. Ash & Co and are listed in here (p. 25 and 56): https://sha.org/assets/documents/Tradem ... leware.pdf Example for the flower...

    Funny face stamp

Maybe it is William Ash & Co. http://swingleydev.com/ot/get/174006/thread/ The corrosive damage looks pretty severe so maybe those are the remnants of a trademark like this: https://www.avito.ru/sankt-peterburg/ko ... _554965149 Jürgen

Where did the knowledge about the capiron get lost?

It's in 'Modern Practical Joinery' by George Ellis, p. 50 in my reprint of the 1908 edition. Not my favourite method for mating the cap iron to the blade, though. Cheers Jürgen

Where did the knowledge about the capiron get lost?

I rather remember Chr. Schwarz as being very dismissive and ignorant about the cap iron pre-2012: http://blog.lostartpress.com/2007/12/31 ... -tear-out/ Cheers Jürgen

    Face side

Custard, that is most interesting. I remember finishing expert Bob Flexner mentioning something like this in his writings a few years ago, it was called 'compression set' or 'compression shrinkage' or something along these lines. There are also papers about the subject written by one F.C...

How do you use a plumb bob like these?

Andy, if you google wooden and metal spacers for plumb bobs you'll find a pdf by Wolfgang Ruecker from plumbbobcollectors with some additional information. (My post count still doesn't permit me to post links, hence the google ref.) Jürgen

    Who made this scrub plane?

Hello, according to Wolfgang Jordan's site it's from Russia: www_holzwerken_de/museum/hersteller/voskova.phtml (for some reason I am not allowed to post proper links, so please replace underscore with dot) Cheers Jürgen
