    Aerosol Spray Paint on Wood

Thanks for your replies. Can I use cellulose thinners to clean the primed surface prior to painting? I used Zinsser Ultimate Performance BIN.

    Aerosol Spray Paint on Wood

This is what I was referring to: https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Bullnos ... 5/p/133616 It's very nicely finished. Not just primer.

    Aerosol Spray Paint on Wood

Thanks for your reply. Would you recommend any compound as part of the painting/polishing stage? If so, what should I get?

    Aerosol Spray Paint on Wood

I've sanded back using 320 and 600 grit wet and dry paper in water and this is what I have at the moment: It needs more paint now. I still want to know how Wickes paint their pre-finished skirting board.

    Aerosol Spray Paint on Wood

Thanks for your replies. I think it could have been temperature related. Just out of interest, how do the pre-painted skirting boards you can buy in Wickes get done in the factory? It can't take anywhere near as long as this nor require sanding. I'd be happy with that standard finish.

    Aerosol Spray Paint on Wood

I've made a wooden lid out of 18mm moisture resistant MDF. It has been painted with multiple layers of Plastikote aerosol primer and sanded so it's perfectly smooth. I've moved on to Plastikote aerosol satin wood paint and I want the finish to be perfect like on a car. I've used multiple...

    Holesaw template for router jig

Except I know that a finger joint has tapered ends, that's what I am after as mentioned in my other thread.

    IKEA Finger Joints

Thanks for your replies. I clicked on the wrong section when submitting this thread, you are right. Those examples are good but I can't see it being easy or quick. The router bits mentioned were some of the ones I have looked at myself, just looking for people who have experience with these...

    Holesaw template for router jig

Great, thanks. Looks like my approach was wrong and you've shown the right tool for the job. I have ordered from Wealden. Do you have experience with their finger jointer bit?

    IKEA Finger Joints

Cutting perfect angles like that sounds like a lot of work. That link actually refers to tapered finger joints as well. I can't see the end result being accurate or quick to achieve with a plain scarf.

    Holesaw template for router jig

Hello there, I have made something that started clean and since sanding has become a mess. I have filled in the areas that need to be fixed and thought I could sort it out by making a template out of plywood. The cutter is 12.7mm, the closest I could get to the size of the bush. It works...

    IKEA Finger Joints

Thanks for your reply. Is that when you cut both pieces diagonally so that each piece has an end that is triangle shaped? If so, how is that easily and accurately achieved? Can it be done without additional bracing too?

    IKEA Finger Joints

Hello there, I have two IKEA mid-sleepers to modify and make into one. I want to make one but taller. I see that the legs are made of wood which is finger jointed from smaller pieces of wood along its length and wondered if I could use that method to extend to legs further. Can anyone...

    Enlarging holes in piano hinges

Thanks for your replies, I have learned a lot. I didn't know that metal could harden when heated up by being drilled. It explains why I managed two or three holes relatively well and then after that it just got messy! I've ordered different size screws and hope that some of them will be...

    Enlarging holes in piano hinges

Thanks for the link. Toolstation sell very similar screws but they are brass coloured rather than silver, so wouldn't match the Nickel plated colour of the piano hinge. In relation to that countersink, one of the reviews said it snapped within 30 seconds of use on stainless steel.

    Enlarging holes in piano hinges

There are so many different types of countersink, which do you use for this job?

    Enlarging holes in piano hinges

It was from Toolstation and I bought the screws that someone in the reviews said went with it.
