    Ceramic Waterstones

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the Chinese stones. I don't want a better edge really, it's just the mess and flattening with the King stones that I would like to reduce, but I take your point that it is a lot of money for not much improvement. Many thanks Philip

    Ceramic Waterstones

There was a bit of talk lately on here about the works sharp 3000, but I still like my setup of buff with pink or white wheel, and then onto a fine diamond stone followed by a rub on a 6000 waterstone. I am not overly happy with the fine diamond stone and started using the King 800 grit...

How to step up single phase motor speed for dust system?

Ian, Use 6" -5" Taper reducers to fit onto your machines. There is next to no loss in the reducer. Choose your 6" flex pipe with a clean wall if possible and as short as practical and you basically have a 6" run through. As you said with an 8" main you need to be careful to make sure the system...

How to step up single phase motor speed for dust system?

Surly it would be easier to reduce your pressure drop than increasing the speed of the motor? Are you at the minimum limit of air velocity to hold dust, for your given extraction quantity? Philip

    Araldite removal?

Try heat. Most epoxy will soften under the heat of boiling water or a heatgun/hairdrier. Philip

    Acrylic Eggshell

Thanks Tim, I will try a short mohair roller and good brush. The Permoglaze has quite a high solids content so I think I will start with 10% water and 10% floetrol and see what happens. Thanks for the advice Philip

    Acrylic Eggshell

Hi Tim, Thanks for the advice. You say you spray complex items, but how much do you end up thinning it to get it to flow, and what sort of setup are you using. The original thinking for the Floetrol was to help with overthinning with water for spraying but when I reached 50/50 paint/water I...

    Acrylic Eggshell

Has anyone had good success painting MDF with acrylic eggshell? The plan was actually to spray the MR MDF cabinet, but it needed thinned to much to spray in a hvlp gun with a 1.9mm tip setup, so I'm going back to the roller and brush. I will add some water and Floetrol to see if it will extent...

    unsure how to proceed

Gary, being from your neck of the woods, I would agree that getting veneered board in anything other than American Oak/maple is bad, and local species is a pipe dream! I would tackle it similar to what Philly did, ie bandsaw Elm in about 4mm thick veneer strips and join to make up what ever width...

    Compound angle dovetails?

Hi all, Is it possible to use dovetails on the corners of a box with shallow compound angles, ie all 4 sides tapering in? I know it can be done using 2 tapered sides and adjusting the angle of the actual dovetails to help with the short grain. Any solutions or tips greatly appreciated. Philip

    hardwood prices per cubic ft.

Is it Clark Cunningham? I have used his timber for a good while now and it's miles better to work than any of the imported American stuff from the local importers. I have used the French oak, elm and sycamore and have been able to resaw most without problems. (I always do a fork test before...

    Birch Plywood Blade

I have had a quick flick through the Axminster book and notice the CMT blade for plywood is a triple chip but with 10 degrees positive rake. What's the advantage with going to the negative rake blade, as I have one of these in my RAS. Philip

    Birch Plywood Blade

Hi, How much benefit is there in using a Freud/Cmt 80 tooth ATB blade over a 40 tooth ATB blade when cutting Birch Ply. Also Has anyone used Wealden saw blades, as there is not much difference in price compared to Freud/Cmt. Thanks in advance Philip
