Post a photo of the last thing you made

A few honey dippers for my men's shed fayre this week. Like our members, all shapes and sizes! Beech with beeswax paste.

    Imperial Spanners and sockets

There are a few groups that make up toolkits to send to areas with no guarantee of electricity, eg. Indra and Africa. It lets people set up in business or do apprenticeships. "Tools for Africa" is one but there are others.

    Britain's Best Woodworker

I think it was, I remember some talk of that foul up.

    Britain's Best Woodworker

I'm watching it, enjoying the variety of approaches and personalities. If anything it will motivate me to get on with some projects that only exist in my head (and wood store) so far. As many have commented the format is removed from actual woodwork production but that's TV - Jewellery making...

    Jo Songa paint

Hi. This is a work in progress using the above paints. Do people further seal the paint or leave exposed? Thanks for any thoughts.

Wanted Lever cap for Stanley No 8, old style slot.

I have an old USA made Stanley No 8 but no lever cap. I think it needs the straight slot type. Any out there? Mike

    Incomplete No 8 Plane

Hi. My wife's uncle passed on his old Stanley No 8 plane to me. It sat on top of his tool shelf as a dusty ornament for years. It now sits on my tool shelf as a cleaner ornament. It is a USA made pre WW1 model and I would happily sell this as I've never used more than a No 6 but the lever cap is...

    Poolewood DVSL lathe?!

Hi. That's a pretty comprehensive review, sound like it will work for you. My Men's Shed has had one of these donated to us, allegedly was working but on setting up the motor won't run. Same inverter on ours which displays speed change and no errors but no life in motor. Any thoughts on checking...

Thanks - I know the spanners that you mean and I do have circlip pliers. I'll try to drill a couple of holes and try it.

Play in vintage tenon saw - enlarged saw nut holes

Hoping to increase grip on my slightly loose 14 inch back saw. Problem is split nuts have been ground smooth. Any suggestions to loosen and replace?

    Finished todays batch

I like the beech bowl, still like the solid feel of that shape. Also like the warped bow - holly turned thin has done that with me occasionally and ended up looking good. Great finish on all your work.

    Brittle Zebrano

Thanks for the help. By "that stage" I only mean turning the inside. I completed the outside today but had lost an hour after locking myself out and having to carefully break the front door lock! Back to finish the inside tomorrow - and I'll use some sealer/water to help. Mike

    Brittle Zebrano

Hi all, I have started a small bowl using a piece of zebrano that I have had for about 10 yrs. Turning the outside has gone fine but I can see the rim is looking brittle and may splinter. Any tips on turning the rim when I get to that stage? Should I use some sealer or even steam to take the...

    Craft fairs

Glenrothes is great. It has Haldanes for great hardwood offcuts but it's a long way to any woodturning clubs which is a shame. I've been here for 25 yrs but still miss the west. I almost met another woodturner last weekend! I went to the recycling centre to empty a few bags of shavings in a...

    Turning laburnum

I have a 6" diameter log that I've been taking small sections off for about 4 years. It still feels like newly cut wood. It takes a lovely smooth finish from tools. It smells a bit sour but not too bad (I don't like coffee type smells). Enjoy. Mike

    Woodturned Duck !!

I am booked to do a couple of days turning with Nikos Siragas in Crete this Summer. I enclose a link to his on-line shop which has a couple of nice ducks. Olive wood does look good in any shape. http://www.siragas.gr/shop.html Not sure if this is clickable or if you need to copy it. Mike

    Keeping walnut dark

Thanks for the suggestions. I can try a few approaches and see how they work out. Stain plus finish -v- oil to start with. Thanks again, Mike

    Keeping walnut dark

Hi. This is perhaps more of a finishing than turning query but I've never used that forum. I'm normally trying to keep light woods as light as possible - this time I want to keep some walnut dark. I get off cuts from a local staircase maker and notice the walnut always ends up paler than when I...
