Ronseal do a '10 year' woodstain in various shades which you could try, but I would agree with previous comments and leave them as is, unfinished.

Are you painting onto fresh plaster or an already painted ceiling? My kitchen ceiling is painted with a good quality matt emulsion paint and it's been fine in terms of not being affected by cooking oils, you can buy specific 'kitchen' paint though I'm not convinced it's essential.

I've got this same bandsaw, but rebadged as a record power model, it's a good little saw, I've asked it to do more than it should do and it's performed well, always use tuffsaws blades in it. £100 is a bargain.
