Anyone ever made something like this? Quite clever how the joinery all fits together nicely.

    Jugendstil Pedestal Desk with Hutch

About a year ago, I was asked to make this desk, but the Covid crisis put a lot of things on hold. This job included. Anyway, it’s done now and it’s out of the shop. There’s probably a good 30 days of work in it. Can’t say for certain, as I’ve always got a few irons in the fire. So, the desk...

    Cabinet Lift

Inspired by the Cabinetizer, but a simpler design. Works well, can lift several cabinets at a time if need be.

    A Chest of Drawers

I built this chest of drawers over a period of a few months, when I had nothing better (more lucrative) to do in the shop. I thought it might be interesting as a broad-stroked summary of steps necessary to build a traditional (5-6-7-8) CoD. It’s not a historically accurate reproduction, as the...

    Antique Art Nouveau Desk Question

I’ve been asked to build this desk: https://www.londonfine.co.uk/products/a ... 1063806996 Doesn’t have to be a carbon-copy, but not straying too far from the overall dimensions, materials used and joinery typical of the period would be nice. At first glance, nothing special, I’ve made similar...

    DIY Hydraulic frame/ panel press

Has anyone considered building something like this: (Starts at 1:05) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcpW7Q5lDas Bottle jacks being inexpensive these days, might be worth looking into.

    Kids House Bed

Never knew there was such a thing, until 2 weeks ago. Anyway, they brought sketches, sent me some photos... Maybe someone with kids might find it interesting. All in all, about 20 hours of work.

    Clothes Valet

Made the old-fashioned way, with power tools. :) The choice of materials, overall look and dimensions were given by the client. The 'details' she left for me to sort out.

    Gluing Cross Grain

Most people adhere to the practice of gluing only a few inches and fastening the remaining length in one of the known ways. I live in a place with continental climate and moisture levels do not change that much over the year, so when making a piece for myself, I have the luxury of not always...

    Continental/ Scandinavian Workbench Build

The design is based on measurements Frank Klausz presented in an online article. They are more/ less in line with what is considered a traditional bench in Central Europe (Scandinavia also, I hear) and I could have taken the trouble of measuring up an old bench somewhere, but this was easier...

    Church Furniture

I've been asked to make some sacristy cabinets. I have spoken with the priest, but I'm still wondering if there are any design idiosyncrasies to consider? If anyone has any experience in this regard, any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Two questions regarding Gustav Stickley drop-front desk #732

Can anyone shed some light on the purpose of the 2 small rails? Decorative? No obvious function on any other pictures I found through Google. Also why were these indentations/ depressions made in the top edges of the drawer sides? Again, was there a functional side to them or just decorative? I...

I bought a pair of moulding planes

Of the ubiquitous Joh. Weiss & Sohn, Wien, kind. One has the side escapement on the other side. Makes sense, I guess, with the blade being skewed.. They make a nice clean cut "out of the box" :) and for three Euros, what's not to like.

Drawer fronts for Art Nouveau cabinet

Some friends of ours brought this old Art Nouveau cabinet to my shop. The two missing drawers need to be made. I usually don't do work like this, but it's always interesting to have a closer look at the way things were done a hundred or so years ago. Could anyone suggest what would period...
