    Mitre Jack

Greetings, oh sage ones. I’ve been interested in making a mitre jack for a while, and while‘surfing’ for information, I have seen several mentions of a plan in ‘the Cornish Workshop’. Unfortunately that site seems to have closed down, and indeed the domain name appears to be up for sale. Can...

    Grinding wood

Greetings Oh Sage Ones, I’ve bought a set of plans, book and DVD’s to have a go at making a Sam Maloof type rocking chair. The instructions came from Charles Brock, a professional chair maker. I have a couple of questions, firstly he uses a Festool to grind the shapes onto the components. I...

    Expansion spaces

Greetings, Oh Sage Ones, I’m mentoring for the first time. The chap is designing and building some very nice garden gates. The gates will be made of Larch, and contain panels of planked timber 110mm by 20mm. I have limited experience of outdoor projects. I need advice for him on how far apart...

    Smoking morticer chisel

Greetings, oh sage ones. I use a chisel morticer, amnd have recently cut about 150 1/2 inch mortices in oak. Thechisel now smokes very badly in use, as there is a build-up of resin/dust which is literally boiling and giving off a lot of acrid smoke. What can I do to clean it off? Many thanks, Austin
