Somebody the other day was moaning they had to wait whilst they gave their postcode at screwfix. I think all the above highlights exactly why its a great reason they ask - they have a record of your transactions.

Have returned a few things to screwfix and not had one quibble. As well as items not working, I often over order materials to make sure ive got enough to finish the job, very simple to return. And certainly no mention of a restocking charge like some builders merchants. Thinking about it I cant...

I agree a 100%. Use to work in a Builder Merchants, a few different branches, and couldn't stand people with a attitude like that. Sorry to balance it out tho, I come on this site every night to have a read up and the wealth of knowledge and support is amazing.

I don't understand, why would anyone not want to give their address/postcode. I know ive got nothing to hide. Been in screwfix when they ask someone who gets all uptight at the thought of having to give a state secret, sorry postcode away. Fair enough if they want to send me their marketing...

That's exactly my thoughts too. The plaster would certainly need some metal lath in it, or there will in time be cracks in the join from the different substrates.
