    Radio for workshop

If you are looking at a DAB radio ensure it is DAB+ as stations seem to be moving over to this and are then not available on standard DAB. I suppose some sort of obsolescence?

    Which type of screw?

Taptite screws? They have a slightly triangular section that allow them to cut a thread when they are driven in. They do need an appropriate sized hole through both materials. We used them in coachbuilding fixing panels to SHS and angle.

    Cordless Circular Saw

I bought a 18V Parkside saw from Lidl some time ago for doing this, mainly if it died it was not a big investment. Things I have found that may be worth considering are: It does not like damp wood (pallets stored outside) and will struggle, fine on dry stuff i.e. it has not rained recently and...

    Aluminium sash cramps.

I have some for light use which I bought from Screwfix many years ago . Be aware of the heads jamming on releasing them. I think it is caused by the aluminium flexing when tightening. Mine need a tap with a hammer to get the clamp square them up then they are fine. Don't overtighten them as I...

    Corian/Minerva/Granite or something else?

You don't say what colour you are looking for but we have a light coloured surface and as said before you need to be careful of staining. The cleaner is good at removing most things though. Worktop savers by the cooker will help with putting hot stuff down.

    Plunge Saw Track Lengths

Looking about 700mm seems to be a common length for saws to be supplied with. As a I cut a variety of stuff and sizes I find the stock 1400 too long for some applications with loads of overhang. Do those with these shorter lengths find them useful? Only on chance to cut it!

    Plunge Saw Track Lengths

I have the Makita S6000 and two 1400mm track lengths. Unforunately rushing and not taking care got kick back and luckily only damaged a section of track. Lesson now learnt about rushing. The track is still useable but OCD has got the better of me and I have replaced it. The question is I was...

    Flat files for hardened steel

I have always used Oregon files for dressing guide bars and have had no issues. As an alternative saw one of this in my local suppliers the other day. http://www.premiumsawchain.co.uk/item/Bar_rail_dresser_with_1_flat_file/8/23/245/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMInabNnsfj1wIVCwHTCh01tQKeEAQYBCABEgIEW_D_BwE

    Worx sonicrafter 350 multitool

I don't think it matters on who makes the sanding pad. Look at the reviews for the Bosch one on Axminsters site. I have tried both Bosch and Makita versions. Neither last long before the velcro start to loose its grip on the abrasive. I am now using the pad saver from Mirka and Abranet and that...

    Anyone done a glass stair/balustrade? (new: Stain/finish)

Hi I did mine a couple of years ago using the clips you dislike, with white oak from Neville Johnson and zip bolts for the fixings. I reused the existing newel posts. Check theses are upright and square as mine had twisted over 50 years. It meant cutting the ends carefully to get a good fit...

    Makita angle drill

Hi I got mine the 12V version from the dreaded bay. Luckily some one had one local to me so could look at it before bidding. It has been used a fair bit as we do up our house. I would suggest as a start looking there as people upgrade kit frequently and off load the old stuff.
