Is it feasible/doable to get the bench up to reasonable scratch & mount the vice just to last me a few months?

    Views on this bench?

Morning all, The wife has just sent me a link to a workbech for sale in our area https://www.gumtree.com/p/tool-storage- ... 1303305571 I've uploaded an image just in case something wrong with the link. It comes with a record vice (not fitted), I personally think for £30 it's a good deal, any...

Amazon have the Faithfull Number 4 and Number 60 1/2 Plane https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M2TX89R/ ... eBb5TBF0NP going for £28.95 and SWMBO has a job in mind for me that would involve planing quite a bit of 2x1” in the near future so might pick that up once payday arrives. Sent from my...

£19.00 for a Faithful (@TradingDepot.co.uk) and £23.65 for a Stanley 110(@TradingDepot.co.uk) , so looks like you've saved me money. Well fingers crossed, it's Beverstock Ltd in Cwmbran. Hmm, I'm not reasonably handy, and my eyesight is poor even with my glasses on.

Your right about the faithful price. Found a Faithful No60.1/2 for the same price as a 110. I made a bench hook already so I will give it a bash as a stopgap shooting board until I can make one of them. The saw i was using is a 10” Tenon I picked up from eBay in reasonable condition but on...

    Trimming ends help

By the sounds of it I need to do a few things: Improve my sawing technique Invest in a Block Plane Construct a shooting board Possibly sharpen my saw I don't think it's particularly sharp, that probably isn't helping I have to make another copy of that frame this weekend (weather permitting)...

    Trimming ends help

Wow, a quick shower and already 2 replies. I had to google “shooting board” and I think I understand how they work looking at photos. I’ve hopefully attached a photo showing where my issue actually started to become noticeable and annoying. The middle pieces needed 1mm trimmed off to fit...

    Trimming ends help

Hi all, I admit my sawing isn’t the best, but today I actually realised that I have a slight lean to the right which no matter how hard I try I just couldn’t shift. My wife has told me to just keep practising but I had an issue where I needed to shave 1mm off the end of a piece of 2x2 but I...

    Hi (again)

Hi everyone. I joined the forum quite a few years ago but had lots going on since then. I now am a skint home owner and trying to do some DIY with wood and it reminded me of that nice forum I joined many moons ago so I thought I would pop back and have a look around. So I just wanted to say hi...

    Newbie saw issues

Wow thanks for the informative reply. I will try again with the 14" 11tpi hardpoint once I have a vice and workbech set up. I picked up a 11tpi more traditional looking tenon in a carboot and the teeth are smaller and I found the grip easier than the hardpoint which I found bounces a bit. Only...

    Newbie saw issues

Q1: So if I needed to do cross cuts ie when stop-cutting prior to chiselling along a length would a DT saw still do it or would I need 2 saws 1 DT for joints and 1 for general cross cutting?

    Newbie saw issues

What makes a saw a dovetail saw? On Paul Sellers site he says his day to day dovetail is a Spear & Jackson 10" 15ppi. Now I have seen such saws on their site today but they don't specifically say "dovetail" but would they be any good? Thanks HLA91

    Newbie saw issues

Compared to the saw in the picture my teeth look less tpi and massive in comparison. Could the saw in the picture be a dovetail? Are they smaller teeth and increased tpi compared to whatever type of tenon my saw is?

    Newbie saw issues

Hey everyone I bought this sawhttp://www.screwfix.com/p/stanley-fatmax-back-saw-jetcut-11tpi-14/85480# and I needed to cut a 15mm thick board to fit by a pipe. I tried to cut 2 down cuts then used a chisel to cut the chunk out |_| but I couldn't get the saw to cut very well. It's a backsaw so I...

What saw do I need and anything else I need?

I missed that other kit thanks for that. In regards to a saw I know most that have been mentioned in this thread would be sufficient but for the little cuts I will be doing would a Tenon be more appropriate or are they more for even more detailed work?
