    Shove ha'penny board?

At many, many times their worth. An old halfpenny to play with shouldn't cost more than 10p. Bronze from 1860-1970. Copper before 1860 but the coins were larger. :)

    Some beginner questions

I left the paint spot deliberately because I don't think it was accidental. I think it's been marked to show ownership or grade of stone. Something like that, anyway. I've had a go at sharpening the tenon saw with reasonable success, but it still doesn't seem that sharp. However, I've been...

Thanks, I'll work round it then. :)

    Some beginner questions

Any suggestions for getting the handle off a tenon saw? I've taken the screws out but although it'll wobble I can't withdraw the blade. :?

Thanks. :) The box has cleaned up quite nicely. It's obviously made from two completely unrelated bits of wood - it might have been nice if it was all the top wood but it appeals to me because I'd have used whatever I could forage too.

    Sound advice, I feel.

Is this some kind of drill? :?:

 I throw nothing. One day I might need them. Or someone else might need them. Plus there are always other uses - strikes me as they'd be ideal for something like this. :)

    Some beginner questions

No, I got that. And you said that I'm a beginner and the last owner probably wasn't. That's exactly the point really, I'm a beginner so I'd be more comfortable with a flat one. :P I'd be happy to try and hone a gouge on it, but a plane iron? A 1" chisel? I don't know how I'd do that. :?

Old tool cleaning part 1 - use of wax

Is there any perceived issue with waxing wooden plane wedges? Would they still lock in place ok? :?:

    Some beginner questions

That's what I was hoping for - enough to do what I need without spending owt. I have a bench grinder. Ex-boot fair, guardless, probably lethal. Along with these oddments I've got a few firmer chisels, a few bevel-edged chisels, a couple of heavy mortise chisels, some gouges of various...

    Some beginner questions

It is and it does - can't pick it up without getting filthy. I wasn't planning on doing anything other than making what I've got useable where possible, so am not looking to do anything other than clean it - BLO and steel wool? :?: Hmmm...it was glued in once, rough side down, apparently...

Not the original half-box? How should I store it? Presumably left partly-exposed in half a box isn't ideal.

I've got an old brace and a load of bits of various descriptions. The brace is no use at the moment as the jaws are knackered. Is there anywhere that supplies replacement jaws please? They're the alligator type with the captive spring.

    Some beginner questions

I've also got this one that someone's carefully made a nice box for. It feels completely smooth to the touch so must be a high grit level. It's not flat, unfortunately. I assume it must be a decent stone for someone to take the trouble to make the box for it, and it's seen a lot of use...

    Some beginner questions

I've got a couple of oilstones - does anyone have any idea what sort of grit level this is likely to be? What does it mean by 'combination' stone? As far as I can see there's no division in the middle that would indicate different grades per side so I think it's all the same. From what I...

    Some beginner questions

Evening all. I have recently acquired a few old bit and bobs which I'm sorting through. I've got a bunch of these: I can't find anything like them - probably because I don't know what I'm looking for. What are they please? :?:

    Sharpening a 20 TPI saw

I'm in the stick club. I did consider fashioning a triangular handle that would, if correctly aligned, serve as an indicator of the face alignment. Here's the saw in question:

    Sharpening a 20 TPI saw

I've had a watch - very informative. I've a saw file on order so I'll try the tenon first. I'm not expecting much but don't reckon I can make it much worse. :) The little saw will need more care, I think. The teeth are unevenly worn so it will need jointing first. What's the easiest way to...

    Sharpening a 20 TPI saw

Thank you. I've found a suitable needle file (3" long cutting surface), so I'm actually in a position to have a go before getting to the tenon saw. Should I wait and practise on the easiest one first? :?: That doesn't sound like something I'd normally do.
