    Long bed bench top lathe?

SVB, Perfect! Thank you. That kind of thinking is what I come here for. Problem solved. Thanks everyone for your help. The chap at Record Power was incredibly helpful. St.J

    Long bed bench top lathe?

Though I hadn’t thought of mounting the extension with a gap. Good thought. I could bolt it all to a stout beam. Thanks

    Long bed bench top lathe?

Thanks. That’s exactly what I mean by a cobbled together setup! I’ve mounted a head and tail stock on bars separately . It’s a pain! Thanks for the recommendation of Jet. I’ll look into it.

    Long bed bench top lathe?

Thanks sunnybob. Axminster was an early port of call. They say their longest with a bed extension is about 1160. Close but no cigar. I asked if two extensions could be bolted on. Sadly not. It would be a little shy of two grand for a lathe with extension that wouldn’t quite meet requirements...

    Long bed bench top lathe?

This might be a bit of a tall order. Or at least a long one. I am looking for a long bed lathe that will sit on my bench top. I’ve been using a strange cobbled together system for years and it’s time for an upgrade. Unfortunately space is limited in my tiny workshop so I’d like to be able to...

    Pedestal table design question.

Do you have access to a copy of “Human dimension & Interior space” by Panero and Zelnik? Pages 144 and 145 would be worth a read. St.John

Best method of making accurate bevels.

Does this need to be seamless? I wonder if bead and cove, as used is thousands of strip planked canoes and kayaks, might be a way to go? Are you building it round a form?

    Double screw leg vice

Fitz, I’m really struggling to do that. When I click on the purchase I get an odd message about parameters. The item number is 302387443153 I have the email address of the chap who sold it to me. We had an extended conversation about square versus round nuts. I’ll pm you.

    Double screw leg vice

That’s what I had on my last bench. Cost me a tenner and took about an hour to install. Definitely better value for money but nowhere near so much fun.

    Double screw leg vice

Thanks Fitz, The large screw was from eBay. Built in small batches in Hungary. £75 each. I’ve just had a look and they’re not currently available. I made the bottom screw myself from boxwood. St.John

    Double screw leg vice

I liked Douglas Coates’ Ad-Vice so much I decided to build something similar into a full sized leg vice: 0W_k8alL65o It was a thoroughly enjoyable little project and is working very nicely. St.John

    Field gates

In my opinion anything you can do to reduce the exposure of end grain in exterior joinery is a good idea. End grain soaks up moisture more easily and therefore allows rot more quickly. So stub tenons would be my preference. Many are built with through tenons, perhaps because some setups make...

    Field gates

Some are stub. Some are through. Some are wedged. Some are pegged. This is entertaining: http://www.pbs.org/video/the-woodwright ... ield-gate/

    Shop made clamps

The wooden hand screws I make have about the same reach as the 4" Record "deep throat" clamps I have. You could make them bigger if you needed a longer reach. I've used them for glue ups. No problem. They're fun to make but not worth it financially unless you consider your time free. St.J

    Recognise this...

Apologies - I have no idea what happened. I was looking through my old posts to find a video and it’s ended up at the top of the list! No idea how to delete it either. Sorry...

    record T5 side handle

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm in a similar situation. Does anyone know of a source of 20tpi 7/32" threaded rod so that I can turn a new side handle for my Record T5? I'm struggling to find anything. Many thanks, St.Jonn
