    Plane mouth fettling

Right so the general consensus is leave the mouth as it is and see how it works. The sole does look nice and flat but the frog looks like someone tried to flatten it with a hand grinder. Original frog and lever obtained with same age lever cap for 7 quid. I'll check my chip breaker is a good...

    Plane mouth fettling

I recently bought an old record no 4 of cheat bay with a view to doing a full resto and getting familiar with it. The only info I can't find is about the mouth. As it is the front and back edges have a slight bow. I can file these back true but will that leave the mouth too wide ?

    tenon saw sharpen and set

i was wondering how many people sharpen their own saws ? there is a long established saw doctor near me and i am inclined to drop my tenon saw in to get it properly sharpened and set then perhaps try filing myself as needed. its only an ebay diston d8 but i am hoping with some rust remover and...

    Convert single to double glazing?

i used to make sealed units and the smallest you can make is 4/4/4 or 12mm over all. the outer pane sits in the usual rebate and the alu spacer with hotmelt seal and inner pane sit inside on the sash. always found it a valid method if a little labour intensive. usually means picture framing...

    sharpening for beginners

all responses very much appreciated chaps, plenty of food for thought. i think woodbrains hit the nail on the heed, i really dont know what truly sharp is. i do know a retired bench hand joiner that i can drop in on for a sharpening demo. i was looking at paul sellers lamination method for a...

    sharpening for beginners

i hate to re-open the great sharpening issue, but i could do with some direction. are there any decent books or sites that start from the ground up as i am the proverbial blank slate as far plane blade honing goes. i have recently invested in an old ws no 4 plane to flatten the top of my " in...

Axminster Tools. Top Fellas !. i was drooling over the ts200 as i occasionally do and noticed they produce a very similar saw to the ets 1825. I sent an e mail to see if the motors were compatible and got a swift reply from Ian Daley. It looks like the motor may be compatible and at £ 110...
