I have an apple tree trunk, any use to anyone?

Cheers Paul and I'll hold off taking a saw to it! I'm in no real rush so can hang onto it if someone wants it. I'm in mid Sussex. Drop me a direct msg if you're interested

I have an apple tree trunk, any use to anyone?

I spoke with the chaps at my local windmill and am waiting to see if they can use it. Sounds like cutting it down into 1' lengths will be the best option to tidy things up and/or prep it for any turners Steve, thanks, I might have to have a go with making a mallett

I have an apple tree trunk, any use to anyone?

Thanks Greg I'm guessing apple wood isn't suitable for structural stuff, hence the turner comment?

Replacing an interior door jamb. What's the best way?

Apols for late reply but have been struck down with the lurgy. The humidity could be an easy fix but I don't think Mr's A would go for it!  A friend recommended one of the Kartcher hand vacs which does a good job with the worst of the condensate Bathroom has a flat roof with...

Replacing an interior door jamb. What's the best way?

That's exactly the sort of issues I would encounter so thanks everyone for recommending the patching route. Deema To check for twist, do you attach the two strings in the corner recesses of the door stops or on the outer lip of the linings? I was going to cut a test piece of 4 X 2 to check...

Replacing an interior door jamb. What's the best way?

Thanks guys. I had to put some dowels in behind the top hinge a while ago as the screws weren't holding the hinge in place and I think its twisted a bit. They're also old rising butt hinges and I want to replace them with some decent SS ball bearing ones. Our bathroom gets VERY wet with...

Replacing an interior door jamb. What's the best way?

I presume you'd then have the hinges at different points? This door's hinges are at 6" and 8" (no me neither)

Replacing an interior door jamb. What's the best way?

I want to put a new door on our bathroom and use three hinges as the room gets very wet and humid. The existing jamb isn't great and the two hinge recesses are oversized, hence a new jamb. A whole new frame is probably the best bet but knowing my luck and abilities, this will probably turn...

Please help an silly person out with cutting straight (with pics)

Couple of tuffsaw blades are on their way. Axy sales chap spent a good 15 mins checking the saw in the shop beforehand. Blade gullets appear central on tyre and the blade certainly feels quite sharp. I'd like to think he knew what he was doing (well certainly more than me!) and I'll report...

Thanks again chaps. Rodders I may not have been 100% square to the blade when I took shot 5. Thanks for that video link, which was very informative and concise. Which leads me on to Steve Have you considered providing your videos for download instead of DVD? Obviously these would need to...

Please help an silly person out with cutting straight (with pics)

Thanks very much guys. I'd recently posted a "what bandsaw?" Q and immediately looked at Tuffsaw blades. Will defo order a couple ASAP. Don't have room for a table saw and have got by with a Fesy TS55 for most cutting, which is defo straight. Doesn't really work with 45' angles or curves...

Please help an silly person out with cutting straight (with pics)

Cheers I should have said the bandsaw is new and only a couple of weeks old. Does that really look like a duff blade as I have no point of reference?

Please help an silly person out with cutting straight (with pics)

Chaps, I'm struggling making straight cuts on the bandsaw. Using the included metal mitre gauge that I'm very happy is at 90', when I feed a piece through, the blade wanders off line. I will eventually make cross cut and mitre sleds but need to get my feeding technique right first. Here are...

Running power to my shed, but trying to avoid a big trench

Thanks for the inputs guys. Have had 3 sparks out to price up the work. Interesting to get different interpretations from "yeah it's your garden, you can do what you like and I'll just bung a MCB in the house CU" to the more considered "a switched fuse at the house end would be one option"...

A symphony of woods (windmill content)

Perhaps not, but I can do you a different view which is a tad closer - https://www.360cities.net/image/ouse-va ... be-viaduct :P  Dick Yep according to https://www.fujifilm.eu/uk/products/dig ... model/x20/ your camera will auto bracket. Make sure you shoot in RAW to get the most out...

A symphony of woods (windmill content)

How very dare you     I'm not a fan of Gas mark 11 HDR processing and generally try to keep it as natural as possible. Church interiors can be a real challenge with light levels, as was this mill as the sun was streaming in on the E window. My canon shift lens is...

A symphony of woods (windmill content)

Thanks Dick It's called HDR - High Dynamic Range. You basically photograph a scene using a bracketed set of exposures to cover the shadows - mid tones - highlights. The human eye is much better at automatically processing the light levels of a scene than cameras so you have to 'cheat' a...

A symphony of woods (windmill content)

Thanks very much everyone for the kind comments We had an apple tree in our garden but it unfortunately died about 18 mths ago and needs to be cut down. I'll start another thread on what the best options are for it. Just remembered I have some old 360's from the Bluebell that I've not yet...
