    workshop airline with 8mm copper?

Thanks for the recommendations, I've been having a look at the John Guest stuff as well as Rapid Main (who also do aluminium pipe), and Sealey...

    workshop airline with 8mm copper?

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a search around for some of the pipe you mention. At this stage I'm not really going to look at a full ring main system in the workshop - although I'll add to it later when I have the time. The set up will go from the compressor, (50 litre unspectacular thing)...

    workshop airline with 8mm copper?

I'm planning on a more permanent air set up in my workshop, my plan is to use copper pipe from the compressor to the outlets. I have load of 8mm copper pipe which it would be good to use, but I'm a bit worried that the ID will be too small - anyone got any idea if 8mm will be OK (the air...

    Iron on veneer edging

Yes I make the 5mm edging myself, it's great but just a bit too time consuming

    Iron on veneer edging

Another great idea Tim – I always think the iron is an odd tool to be having in the workshop!

    Iron on veneer edging

Thanks for the info Pete very useful, I have used an iron to re-activate PVA where veneer has lifted before but not used the technique for edge banding – I'll follow your method and see how I get on

    That's great advice – cheers Paul :)

    Iron on veneer edging

I've always shied away from using iron on veneer edging, probably due to bad experiences with MFI 'furniture' of yesteryear and it's inability to stay stuck on for more than about a day. I'm lead to believe glue technology's moved on a bit these days and it's actually pretty good these days –...

    Uncurling wenge veneer

Don't worry Whiskywill – I've not completely given up yet! Interesting idea about the steam cleaner Johnny, wonder if you could get enough heat and moisture into it before clamping flat to get it to hold it's flat shape?

    Uncurling wenge veneer

I'll give it a go - otherwise it's going on the bonfire! Last time I tried it with some maple I got the bottle of alcohol mixed up with a bottle of Morrells acid cat and ended up using the alcohol in its place... it took a fair amount of head scratching before I twigged why it never dried!

    Uncurling wenge veneer

Do you think that'll work with it being construction thickness? I'll give it a go - I seem to remember using alcohol and glycerine in the past - does that sound about right?

    Uncurling wenge veneer

Hello there, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.... I have some sheets of 1.5mm thick wenge veneer (about 18cm wide x about 2.5m) which was beed rolled up for a good few years, despite leaving it out and putting things on top of it, it still refuses to uncurl and is pretty unusable. So, has...

    gluing after lacquering

Thanks for the quick reply - I can't do that, most of the parts are getting CNCed ready for me to sand, finish and assemble.

    gluing after lacquering

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of gluing up after lacquering... I'm developing a new product that will be made from 6mm birch ply. My usual finishing/gluing procedure would be to mask off the areas that will have adhesive on them and then lacquer. With this product it would be...

    Putting planes down flat

It figures that this practice would come from schools where the brats.. sorry, children... are much more likely to do damage to the blades on untidy benches than a careful woodworker who puts the plane down carefully on a clean bench. It's at school, of course, where I learnt to never put the...

    Putting planes down flat

Thanks for the replies Bob and Peter, I must say I wasn't planning on stopping my practice of putting planes down on the side, or lifting the front, I was just wondering if it made a difference. I can see with your explanation Bob that leaving a plane resting on the blade will have some effect...

    Putting planes down flat

Because I'm a good boy and do as I was taught, I never let my planes sit on the bench on their blades - I always put something under the front of the sole as you're supposed to (or lay it on it's side). But - does it really matter if you sit your plane on its blade - does it really blunt them or...

    Tuffsaws Bandsaw Blades

If it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't have known about Ian's blades - I've had one on my bandsaw for a couple of months, it's transformed the machine! When I first fitted my the blade and tried it with some thick purpleheart I literally laughed out loud - I couldn't believe how easily it cut...
