    FTAGH Collection of Woodworker Magazines

I have a decent collection of "Woodworker" Magazines dating back as early as 1951. Some doubles, some missing and a few with missing covers. They are in varying conditions. I have some of the fold out inserts as well, but they came loose and I haven't endeavoured to home them in their...

    Wooden Workshop Base

I am happy with the layout and use of Lintels, so now comes my next question. Most of the Periscope Vent I can find when used upside down have an aperture of 200mm x 50mm. Pretty much all of the timber I have been able to check so far near me has FIN dimensions of 95mm x 45mm. Can I...

    Wooden Workshop Base

That's good to know. I think working with shorter lengths will be easier, and using multiple lengths cut to size will be cheaper as I can buy in bulk of 10+. Thanks

    Wooden Workshop Base

Thanks all. I have had a play around with the layout of some Concrete Lintels looking at the sizes of my closest supplier, Travis Perkins. They seem to use sizes of 965mm, 1830mm and 2440mm. With this in mind I could arrange them into a base that would be 4825mm x 2795mm which I think would...

    Wooden Workshop Base

Mike I have properly read through your Building a Shed without concrete thread and it was very helpful. I am now on WH2 reading Michaels build.

    Wooden Workshop Base

Thanks both for your suggestions. The more and more I read, the better off it seems I would be using a concrete slab. I think that I will bite the bullet and when the time comes get some quotes for someone to come and lay a slab for me.

    Wooden Workshop Base

After years of waiting I should soon hopefully be in a position to construct myself a workspace at the bottom of my garden. My plan is to assemble a 40mm thick log cabin which can be viewed on the link below. https://www.tuin.co.uk/Aiste-Log-Cabin-5-x-3m.html To try and keep costs down, and so...

The Woodworker - The Charles Hayward Years, Vol III

From the Lost Art Press Blog The next book in the pipeline is Vol. IV of “The Woodworker” series. This final volume is on workshop stuff (workbenches and tool chests), furniture and its details, plus a few philosophical surprises at the end.

    bandsaw box advice please

Will try and get something sorted when I have access to one again. Working at a new school now. It was in a router table which makes everything that much safer and easier to control. Bearing guided cutters mean you cannot get into corners so a certain amount of work with a chisel and sandpaper...

    bandsaw box advice please

I found using a router bit with a bearing guide really useful for rounding edges on bandsaw boxes. Rounding the edges is great on the outside but also creates a really nice transition on the inside of cuts and can draw attention away from any less than perfect bandsaw blade marks. Not perfect...

    ...........

The heat build up on those wire saws from friction is almost as great as the heat in the person sweating and struggling to cut through something. Not sure how great that would be on a machine full of sawdust.

    West Midlands Car Boot

Thanks Nick. I'll add it to the list of places to check out. I made it to two yesterday. Unfortunately they were both mostly full of Tat, not a single piece of rusty gold.

    West Midlands Car Boot

Evening All, I have just relocated to the Wet Midlands and am on a mission to familiarise myself with the area. Can anyone recommend any decent Car Boot Sales or shops anywhere that I could potentially find the odd second hand tool at? Wolverhampton and Birmingham area are my stomping...

    West Midlands Tools

Not too late but a bit too far. Thanks anyway. I'm heading back down South now. Very little in the way of tools round this way. Need to go car boot searching methinks.

    West Midlands Tools

Thanks. Looks like a great place to check out machinery. If I move to he area in the future with which is a definite possibility I will be there more than a few times. Now just to find myself a second hand tool emporium or decent car boot.

    West Midlands Tools

I'm up in the area around Wolverhampton for the next few days visiting family and come up reasonably regularly. Does anyone know of any decent shops, merchants, markets or car boots in the area where I might be able to find some half decent second hand tools? Would be nice to have some...
