    Burst eardrum.

The honest answer is that you won't notice when it gets better. Try not to get any water in your ear for a while, let it all dry out properly. In about 2 weeks you'll realise you can hear again. It's taken me 30 years but I have now finally accepted it. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN YOUR EAR EVER I...

    Telepathic customer service

Spooky, but true. I finally got a payout from the insurance company for the tools that were stolen in March so I put in an order with Workshopheaven. I added several cabinet scrapers as it said you'd get a free leather wallet. I wasn't sure I'd got it right so I added a note on the order...

Any Idea what these are ???????????

Sheet corrugators? Or veneer ruiners  .

Super bargain tool + new shiny shiny

I used to own a pair of the fishtails and they were great (sadly they were stolen). The AI Dovetail chisels are quite thin and so they will flex if you put too much behind them. Now if I can just get the insurance company sorted out...

Glue with a long open time.

What about poly-eurethane? I'm sure I used some with a 30 min open time the other week when I was building a bed. To be fair, that was working in the sun outside and I had no problems putting the headboard together. Just make sure you wipe the joint with a damp cloth first so you get a good bond.

    clamps wanted.

I got 2 packs of the Dakota 54" clamps (12 in all). When I got them out of the pack they were not as straight and true as I expected but then I'm used to the old-fashioned pig iron ones from college. They're not a patch on the Besseys but as a general set of clamps, they're fine. I don't...

Dovetail jig woes, where am I going wrong ?

Ok, lets see if we can get you somewhere near sorted. These jigs are a pig to setup the first time, a real pig. Mine wasn't the Perform version but I'm fairly sure they're all made in the same factory. I've managed to find one of my previous attempts (that worked) and measured the dimensions...

    moving on from pine!

Try Poplar. It's one of the cheapest hardwoods and is prone to some interesting colourations. It is also easy to work without blunting all your tools too often :D .

    My Oak is warped

It depends in what way it's warped. If it's just got a bit of curve in it then you could plane it out to make a thinner board. If it's really badly curved, you could cut it down the centre of the curve, square it all up and then re-join it. A picture would help :D .

AI Dovetail vs AI MkII Chisels

I wouldn't be without my AI dovetail chisels. Well, apart from the ones that were stolen, but that's because they were in my college bag that contained my 'sharp and shiny' tools. Haven't tried the MkIIs but I'd love to have a go. Maybe a combination? A 1/4" dovetail and matching skews, and...

    A Mac DNS problem

Can you try using a different web-browser on the Mac? That would narrow down whether it is a Mac problem or a web-browser problem. If it was a PC, I would have suggested flushing the DNS but I don't know how to do that on a Mac. However, a quick search of Google will probably tell you how to...

    Any mac experts out there?

I'll be honest, I've just spent a week on a VMware course so the impact on the memory was still fresh in my mind  . I've checked on my machine and the process using the most memory is kernel_task, using about 200MB. That's a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. If you can see any process...

    Any mac experts out there?

It sounds more like a memory issue than a CPU issue, in particular, it sounds like one of your applications has a memory leak. Try not running VMware and see if the same thing happens. The machine slowing down to the extent you describe implies that it is using the swap space on disk rather...

    How stupid am I???

Nope, not stupid at all. Stupid is gluing it together without putting the bottom in. At least, that's what the other students said to me :? .

PTFE Spray OR What do you use to lube machine parts.

GT85 and WD40 are very similar. They both lubricate and make your hands smell, no matter how much you wash them! If you want to lubricate moving parts, use a thin oil, something like 3-in-1. We used to use GT85 and / or WD40 on bike chains. It's good but you have to apply it on an almost...

    Not Very Fast Dovetails......

Blinding effort for a first attempt. Keep practicing on hardwoods, softwoods are cheap but terrible for dovetail practice. Start with 2 long boards and keep cutting the dovetails off. The more you practice, the easier it gets. It's like riding a bike, you never forget how to do it but it's...

    what an amazing collection

She would cut them off and preserve them in a jar to remind me what I'd done for the rest of eternity. And that's regardless of the fact it would probably take me several years to make a cabinet to keep them in. Nice collection though, and good to see someone letting someone else have the...

That make me chuckle. And, if I was another glass into the bottle, I would now be trying to make a beef meringue. Very Heston...
