Latest thing you have printed / machined / cut

Hello Jepho. I really am only just starting off so my settings are probably way off optimal. They also change with each carving at the moment. For this reason I won't detail them as I will probably cause people more problems than I resolve. I am using Estlcam and following the V1 Engineering...

Latest thing you have printed / machined / cut

Recently put together the MPCNC (Mainly printed CNC machine). My first dabble into CNC for over 30 years. Still work in progress, but I have been surprised at what I have been able to do with it so far:

Timber suppliers in the West Midlands

I know this is an old thread, but I finally got to Shelmore timber today for the first time. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, even though I was only purchasing a small amount. It is a very professional setup, and the timber I purchased (ash) looks to be very good quality.

Things to while away the day watching on Youtube

I enjoy watching this chap. As the title of his channel suggests, he is not an expert, but learning as he goes. His presentation I think, is very good, and he does make some nice models.

    Sourcing some hex bar

M-Machine Metals and Engineering (m-machine-metals.co.uk) list it. I find them very good. They usually get it to you the next day.

Timber suppliers in the West Midlands

How long have these been in business for? I only live a few miles away from them and didn't know they exist. Do they sell small quantities?

    Price shock

I got quite excited then... A timber supplier in Stafford :giggle:. Then I looked at their web site: £1000 minimum order! Looks like I will have to keep driving up to Potters in Nantwich for the small amounts I use.

Using a hacksaw cutting big(gish) stuff. Or how to saw a railway line.

I made this mechanical hacksaw last year for cutting larger lumps: Even so, I think I would pull out the angle grinder for something like a railway line.

    scaffold board rubbish

People are saying their stuff is expensive, but they must get through some planer blades trying to prepare old planks. They have to cover their costs. :)

    Mini CNC machine

If you have a 3D printer you could have a look at these: Specifications | V1 Engineering Inc Although they are not as small as the ones you asked about, they can be scaled in size. They are a low cost option in dabbling into the work of CNC. I cannot vouch for the performance as I am only part...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

I was going to add about a pocket knife. As a 10 year old, I considered it a tool, not a weapon.

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

Also, as kids of 14 (or less) we were out on our own with airguns.

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

My lad of 10 was amazed yesterday when I told him that old cars could start by turning the engine over with a starting handle. We had to visit YouTube before he would believe me.

    Which welding rod?

I have found that make of rod makes a lot of difference. Oerlikon fincord are expensive, but easier to use than others I have tried. How much current does your welder deliver? Does it need a 30A socket? You should be able to run a modern welder with 2.5mm rods off 13A without issues.
