    Roofing. Galv sheeting replacing slates.

What about industrial cladding? You can attach it to purlins. I’d get it with insulation ie. Sheet, insulation, sheet. It comes in a wide variety of colours and designs. Look a lot better than galv sheet and a lot quieter when it rains.

    Building Bridges

The infill looks unusual, may I ask with the bracing parts mitred into the corners of the hand and lower rail how will you stop the expansion of the hand and lower rail not trying to break apart the joints?

1.1 - Wadkin RS Lathe ¦¦ Elephants Foot + Tool Rest

Diesel or kerosene is one of the best penetrating fluids.just submerge and wait. It also removed gunk ready for electrolysis. You can use it instead of water / washing soda….. spark erosion uses kerosene. I don’t mix it with ATF as that makes a good paint stripper and often I’m just getting...

    Help: converting 230V (1ph) 50Hz machines to run on 220V (1ph) 60Hz supply

The simplest solution is to fit a single phase to single phase inverter. This will take 220v 60hz in and convert it to 240v 50hz out. Just pick one large enough for you biggest machine. Not cheap, but it’s the optimum solution. I’d buy one and plug the machine you want to use into it.

    Startrite Spares

It’s a harsh thing to say, but it would be cheaper to buy another saw than buy spares. I would either buy a donor saw or another complete saw and sell the remaining parts / saw for spares.

    Hollow mortice chisels

I have over the years collected virtually a full set of imperial mortice chisels. Just missing the elusive 15/16” to fulfil my need for completeness. 😂 The chisels that see the light of day have been 1/4”, 1/2”, 5/8” and 3/4”. That’s covered everything from furniture, doors and windows and the...

    Hollow mortice chisels

You will need a system to sharpen the chisels, Clifton used to make them, there were 3 sets (looks like a counter sink with a variety of inserts to guide the cutter into the chisel) to cover the entire range of chisel sizes. They are rare to find, usually hideously expensive and often as not...

A little truth for a change.

Population numbers are set to decline around the world in every country by 2086 and have peeked at 10.8 million. A number of countries are already faced with population decline, South Korea being the worst affected.

A little truth for a change.

George Orwell famously used two plus two equals five in his novel nineteen eighty-four as an example for an obviously false statement that you can nevertheless make people believe in.

According to George Orwell 2+2=5 in his novel 1984.

A little truth for a change.

Try looking at around 150 million years ago for 3000ppm. Think Jurassic park (film) to get an idea of the when. Good old Wiki suggests optimum CO2 levels are 1200ppm, or 1.2% not where we are right now, which is 0.04% and has increased from c0.03% by circa by 0.01% since the Industrial Revolution.

A little truth for a change.

The levels of CO2 were decreasing, and had been for thousands of years. The world was at its greenest when CO2 levels were circa 3~4% which is the optimum level for plant growth (lots of forced cultivation under glass pump in CO2 to increase plant development) If the trend in decreasing CO2 had...

A little truth for a change.

This reminds me of the film ‘ Life of Brian’ what ever did the Romans do for us, we can have a look at what ‘ever did oil do for us.’ Roads, medicine, fertiliser to feed the world, extended life expectation, clothing, insulation for our homes, the list is endless. When we have found...

A little truth for a change.

This is the problem with following the crowd, and not looking at the wider consequences of actions. So, let’s consider Africa, its population in the very near future will push past that of China, it has the highest birth rate, one of the lowest incomes per capita and faces some of the worst...

A little truth for a change.

@RobinBHM thanks for posting, your views are always insightful, helpful and courteous and really add to the debate and discussion. I’m never sure how much to post, too much and we lose people as it really is boring apart from those enthusiastic about the subject, too little and it’s open...

A little truth for a change.

If you suggest papers that contradict the consensus view, they are shouted down as rhetoric, if you point out facts about the absurdity of some the of argument it’s ignored. So, I try pointing out facts that most arnt aware of to highlight how limited their perspective is, ie water vapour is one...

A little truth for a change.

So, let’s try a different perspective. The earth is right now still in an ice age, we are just exiting. If all human activity stopped the world is going to get hotter, the ice caps are going to melt just like they always have. Locked up CO2 is going to be released from the tundra, polar bears...

A little truth for a change.

Except that once CO2 reaches the stratosphere it causes the stratosphere to cool not heat up.

A little truth for a change.

So, are you ignoring the science that is categoric that water vapour absorbs infa red to the same extent as CO2 and is classified as a greenhouse gas. So, you prefer to pick on CO2, at a concentration of 0.04% rather than water vapour which is 0.4%? Just 10 times more water vapour…..and that has...
