Hi all, I'm getting a new shed soon and looking to sell my Inca bandsaw because I don't use it anymore (hand tools mostly now). I've no idea what it's worth so was wondering if anyone could help me out with a guide price. Band saw details: Inca 342 186 44 Full working condition (albeit a...

G.T.L Crosscut saw... More info needed!

Hi all, I got the saw in question from a carboot at the weekend and was wondering if anyone knew anything about this manufacture? The blade is etched with G.T.L, there is a 6 stamped on the last tooth for the tpi and the teeth have been sharpened (very nicely) in a crosscut pattern. I've...

Buying my first ever set of hand tools

Hi there, I've also got a set of the Aldi chisels and love them, although i've nothing modern to compare them too. Have you decided on a sharpening method yet? I recommend Eze-Lap diamond plates, I'm not all that experienced in sharpening but have no problem getting my tools edge nice and...

    Hand routers

I've certainly considered it and I might eventually do so! I've read about re-shaping allen keys to use as cutters. For the time being I was going to use Paul Sellers poor man's hand router method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_2a_FwjAgk Quite like the simplicity of this design too...

    Hand routers

I've also been keeping an eye on ebay and the for sale section of the forum with no joy yet. My plan is to wait it out for the carboot season to restart and hope I find one! Are there any carboots near you?

Flattening the sole of my new smoothing plane

Thanks again for the advise and support on this chaps, I'll be sure to email record letting them know of my disappointment. As to flattening progress I've got it so my 0.10 feeler pinches, the 0.05mm slides straight through still but maybe that'll be good enough. I daresay my hand is going...

Flattening the sole of my new smoothing plane

Just had the feeler gauges under two of my straight edges and I believe there is only a gap of just under 0.15mm now. I will check out the link above.

Flattening the sole of my new smoothing plane

I'll grab my feeler gauges from the shed this morning and measure the remaining gap for reference. These pics are not in chronical order. The sole at the moment is much further on now than in the below pic, the was taken after I was just getting going. Set up: Blade adjuster: Sole after...

Flattening the sole of my new smoothing plane

Thanks for the feedback and ideas all, using it as a scrub plane was an idea that crossed my mind but i'd much prefer a lovely smoother!!! I've been using a sharpie to keep a track of my progress, because ive got fed up of going at it with 80g I've turned to my coarse diamond plate which is...

Flattening the sole of my new smoothing plane

My thoughts after an hour of flattening and making little progress was sending it back however this is tricky as it was a gift. If I had purchased it myself it certainly would have gone back. I've only had secondhand planes before so i wasnt aware that this would be probably be a write off with...

What makes new hand planes bad?

I've just now created a post regarding a troublesome brand new Irwin Record #04 plane I was given for christmas (Amazon link), so far I've had to do a few jobs... Consisting of reshaping the blade adjusters as one of them comes out of place when moving the iron back and forth minor issue I guess...
