    Improving the look of Camphor Laurel

    This was a fairly ordinary piece of CL with not much heart wood. So a couple of coats of DO later it has darkened up nicely and makes a fairly respectable looking bowl. 250mm x 150mm with a opening of 100mm

    Here we go a something for Christmas for the DIL 16X4 Mallee finished in satin WOP. This is the first of few I have been requested to do.

    Mallee Hollow form

    Mallee hollow form, around 10x5 took awhile to finish the wet weather played merry H*** with the polyurethane I was using.

    Its been a while since I posted anything. This one is the latest off the lathe a small 4" or 100mm dia hollow vessel with spirals and capped with a Dead Finish collar finished with several coats of DO

    Emu Apple

    This particular wood I doubt if its made its way to the UK, another desert timber from the central highlands of Queensland. Turns very well and polishs up with a little buffing to a high degree of finish. 6" high 5" dia with 1.5" opening, no finish just buffed, will wax it and buff it later...

    curly eucalytus

    A piece of fairly good curly Eucalypt, originally I was going to carve spirals on it. But thought better of it as the curl is effective enough on its own. 7x3" witha wall of around 1/8th" finished with WOP two coats and buffed with a neutral wax.

    Silky Oak

    Silky Oak hollow platter??? 12x3" finished with DO and left matt. The inside is stained with Mahogany to give a good contrast curves.

    A small Tasmanian Eucalyptus Bowl with a fair bit of bark

    This one has been drying on the back shelf for several years, falling off and getting in the way. So I thought I would finish it off and move it on, it destined for a bowl swap. rough dimensions 7"x2.5" finished DO and left matt, wall thickness around 1/8" to 5/32" or 4-5mm

    mallee and gidgee decanter

    This came from a rather flatish burl hence the shape and the stopper is gidgee. Finished with DO and Wipe-on-Poly 6"x6" The brown colour was a challenge to get to come out ok.

    This one the timber is an unkown, came marked as redgum??? doubtful if it is. Still it didnt turn out to bad. Finished DO and a light buff. 6.5"x4.5".

    burr bowl

    small burr bowl 6x2.5 finished with DO. Hard Eucalyptus burr, fairly dense and takes a shine well, very dusty when dry.

    hollow vessel

    small hollow vessel 4" dia finished with DO. Its resinous eucalyptus burr and needs to be turned with some care as the resin veins have weakened the piece

    eucalyptus burl [burr] bowl

    Small bowl 6.5x5.0" resinous eucalyptus burl. Filled the blank with CA prior to turning as this sort of timber can be very porous and weak. Often you find out as a bit of it whizzs past your head.

    Knocked out another one, this one will be given away at Christmas. 7"x5" finished with DO and a light buff. Comments and critique most welcome.

    right through the side arrggh!

    Trying to finish a number of bowls and hollow vessels for Christmas, rushing with in-adequate gear didnt help. African Mahogany around 6" dia and it was to include a ebony finial, hmm not sure what it will be now.

    Camphor Laurel with embellishments

    I have several CL blanks that look to be a bit plain. So I thought I might try a little embellishment to give it some character. 5"X7" finished with Danish Oil.

    indentured wood turners

    Due to a comment on another forum to the fact that there is only one indentured woodturner alive in England today. I began to wonder how many are there? Do they belong to this or any other forums? Are there any left if so how many? As I live in Australia its a bit difficult too gain much info...
