    Crosscut Sled - my way

    You're a poet and didn't know it!

    Crosscut Sled - my way

The orange bars are a lazy mans method of making the runners and they're cheaper than actual mitre bars . You're right they need to be cut to length which is relatively easy. I suppose the point I was trying to make in a convoluted way was that they fit in the slots perfectly not even a gnats...

    Am I the only one...?

I get something similar when the Mrs is away visiting the outlaws for a few days!

    Crosscut Sled - my way

I discovered that the mitre slot track from Axminster fits in the mitre slot of a table saw with standard 19mm mitre slots, I need to stop typing mitre slots. I am about to make a cross cut sled for my new, 2nd hand, used, refurbished, only one lady owner table saw and was going to used the...

Paying the banks back at their own game

If this ever happens to you again check their admin' charges and charge the same rate, usually about £30. They can't do thing about it either, but its good to see someone give them a slap.

    Dewalt RAS DW125 switch problem.

Would be a real surprise if there brushes then!

    Lets see some damage.

Bloody hell! I'm going to take extra extra care from now on. The worst I've had is a few splinters so far, I did nearly come a cropper when using a table saw sled when I pushed too far and nearly caught my fingers. I'm pretty sure I'd give up my new hobby if I had an accident like some of...

    Dewalt RAS DW125 switch problem.

Switches will fail after prolonged use over time, although I can't think of what sound it would make. Replacing a switch is relatively straight forward but check the brushes before you proceed.

Wait for inspiration or go find it?

Good grief that's a deep question..... I'm not sure that I "find" inspiration, more like that it finds me especially when my frustration levels are high, something just pops into my head. I'm not really a creative type of person more practical so I'm not sure if I'm driven to find or be found...

    Old yankee workshop

I've plunge cut with a circular saw, the first time was a bit bum tweaky and the old under crackers underwent some discoloration but it ended without incident. I tend to be overly cautious after being a victim to a kick back, fortunately I was stood to the left of the cut and the board sailed...

    Old yankee workshop

I watch quite a few woodworking videos on the net and have seen some right dodgy methods and the plunge cut must be among one of the dodgiest I've seen. I wonder how many inexperienced weekend woodworkers out there have tried that?

    Respirators

I use a half mask respirator and I run a dust extraction filter which is the best investment I've made. I tend to forget I have the mask on and carry on wearing it all day, when I take it off I have the mask grooves embedded on my face so it looks like I've squashed my face in a door.

    Clean your tools

I like to think that if you value something you'd look after it, even when selling a car you'd give it a clean at the very least, if it was full of burger boxes, fag burns and mud it would devalue it. I'd buy a crappy looking tool if it was cheap and I thought it could be cleaned up and...

    Clean your tools

I have been putting together a selection of machine tools, some bought second hand some new, I've even made purchases that I wished I hadn't and resold them. In the second hand market I only bid on tools that are clean as this gives me the impression that they have been well looked after and...

    Invasive Plant (garden)

If you can get a small syringe, inject it right into the stem of the plant at various intervals, the washing up liquid mix is also good but injection every couple of weeks is guaranteed. Its how Japanese knotweed is dealt with. Make sure to burn thoroughly once it's died right back.

    Musings of a newbie.

It only takes me 30 minutes to clean up and once a month I get the garden blower and have a great time blasting dust through the door for a few minutes. I dont have the skill nor the patience for hand held tools yet. Having said that I've been practising hand sawing recently and I find it very...

    Musings of a newbie.

I actually had that thought today, most of the dust appears to be MDF. I may stick to ply and conti as much as possible see, I'll still wear the respirator though.

    Plunge Saws...

The only thing I can think of is that the plunge saw wont do rip cuts........ I have a cheapo skil rail that I use to chop boards down to size then cut accurately on my table saw.

    An unkind cut

On a related note, I'm due in for an operation tomorrow and I'll still have two hands free, which means pints, cuppas and custard tarts are all easily dealt with. However, I won't be allowed in the garage because you can't lift after hernia operations :( . I'm going to have to watch TV...
