Spare oak - free to good home -- Wood gone.

Hi, Alan has arranged collection for tomorrow so the wood has now gone. If I'd had more I would have split it, but unfortunately I didn't. Sorry to anyone who missed out. How do I mark a topic as closed? Regards, Ian.

Spare oak - free to good home -- Wood gone.

Okay, this is what there is. The first to shout up with a definite 'I'll have it' and can confirm when they can collect can have it. I'd prefer if it could be collected tomorrow, but Monday would suffice. Board 19 x 150 x 3m 2 off. 32 x 95 x 1.9m 1 off. 32 x 75 x...

Where to buy PAR hardwood boards to make a bookcase

Steve, Just be careful buying online. I've had a couple of nightmares when I've bought PAR online. I've been supplied with boards that were the correct dimensions but twisted. I've also had 3m boards which have had sections of up to 1m that have seen a plane's blade. If you do buy online, be...

    electronic cigarettes

Be aware that the e-cigs are not universally accepted. Here in Nottingham, both of the main shopping centers have banned them and the Whetherspoon pub chain has also banned them from their pubs. I think it's a bit sad that people are trying to modify their behaviour as society at large seems...

Spare oak - free to good home -- Wood gone.

Marcros, Depends on your little project. From memory, it's prime grade oak, and was purchased from Venable Brothers. There are a couple of 3m lengths of 150 x 19, a couple of pieces of 150 x 19 at about 1500 long. A few pieces of 150 x 32 at around 1500 long. Half a dozen 40mm squares at I...

Spare oak - free to good home -- Wood gone.

Stew, a couple of the boards are 3m long so not sure how we'd go about postage, guess it would need to be something like TNT. Lets see if anyone local wants it. If not, we can always look in to what the cost of transport would be. It could end up being more than the value of the timber. Ian.

Spare oak - free to good home -- Wood gone.

Hi, Due to personal issues, I'm clearing out my shed, tools and all. I have some left over oak boards, not a huge amount but I'm sure someone could make use of it. I'm not at home at the moment, so if anyone is interested, post back here and I'll let you know the measurements etc later. I...

    Purchasing machinery

When I was in a similar position, I read tool reviews on here and mainly went down the route of buying online from Axminster. Mainly bench top kit and hobbyist but I found the kit was fine for my needs. I spent more on hand tools to get better quality in the hope that any inadequacies in the...

Butt joints on featheredge cladding? - SOLVED TA

I'm struggling to get featheredge boards at over 4.5m for cladding my new workshop. Is butt jointing smaller lengths acceptable? If so, what is good practice - stepping the joints and leaving a small expansion gap (maybe 5mm), possibly filled with a flexible waterproof jointing compound? Or is...

    Begginers Tool Set?

A question for the more experienced makers out there; can you give us junior/trainee/beginners the benefit of your experience? What would you suggest as an essential starting point for tools? (Planes, saws, chisels, mallets etc). A good comprehensive list of what you think any beginner in...

    Adjusting a mitre saw

Never heard of Bosun tools, but a quick search of the internet thingy suggests that they are not held in very high regard. There was a thread previously on this site where this saw is mentioned. Take a look through this https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/fox-sliding-compound-saw-t1686.html...

    Old newbie wants career advice

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll take a look at the shorter course options. Financing the change is perhaps the second biggest obstacle, the biggest being having the time to put what I learn into practice. As I have said already, most of my time is spent working away from home, so I don't have...

    Old newbie wants career advice

It's a difficult one to put into perspective. Most of my time is spent working away from home. So, I spend the majority of my life in B&Bs. When I'm at home, I enjoy the woodwork that I have the opportunity to do, even though it is at best DIY and fairly rough and ready. I don't have a workshop...
