What might this be? ... I do know, but do you?

Depends entirely where you come from mate!

What might this be? ... I do know, but do you?

Errrr??? (OK, so I AM ignorant)! I thought it was four and twenty blackbirds - not larks - baked in a pie. Why do we want to attract larks to branches - presumably employing the sticky stuff to stick the larks to the branches?? Either I've completely lost it (it's not 1st April is it?) or you...

What might this be? ... I do know, but do you?

OK, I'll bite - and show my igerence in the process no doubt :dunno: Assuming the lark is the little birdie we all know of, how on earth does that thing attract them/scare them away? Does someone have to stand there pulling the string so that the head wizzes round?? If so how do we...

    Labelling system

Don't know what brand mine are - mine are "paint pens" NOT the usual "fibre tip markers". Bought quite cheaply (a couple of quid each - equivalent) in Aldi/Lidl and from the odd aeromodelling & plastic model kits shop. "Tamiya" (well know plastic models maker) do them too, and I have a couple...

    New Scroller after advice

Agree with ajs. I guess laser would be ideal if what you need is "many" or each. But just as ajs says, with a scroll saw you just draw around the base and cut it out. And with the right blade, the base could be ply, MDF, solid timber, anything from a couple of mm thick up to at least 22 mm...

    New Scroller after advice

Not sure exactly what you mean by, QUOTE: I make terrain for tabletop gaming, and one of the issues I have is basing stuff, ...... UNQUOTE. Sorry if I'm dense. Do you mean something like a landscape baseboard for a model railway layout (though perhaps smaller)? In that case I GUESS that at least...

    Labelling system

Just for info, the tape I referred to is one of Brother's own, which like the machine itself, appear from time to time at my local Aldi. The tape I'm talking of is called "STRONG ADHESIVE" and is also marked "TZe tape". The one I use is white (my printer prints black only AFAIK!) and is 12 mm...

    Labelling system

I too use the electric Brother, bought in Aldi when they had a special offer. About 25-30 quid equivalent if I remember. Wide range of tapes, etc, including a "very sticky tape" which sticks well to those blow-moulded cases. Just give a little thought to label placement when sticking onto cases...

    Joke Thread 4

IMO, nothing wrong with showing your age mate. Although many say "different jokes appeal to different folks", I THINK I'm right in saying that "everybody" got at least several laughs out of Muir and Norden each time they appeared. They were simply GOOD. Which again IMO is a lot more than can be...

Choosing a scroll-saw. Why pay more? the answer is here.

AND, to echo scrimper's comment above dave, there's more info in the sticky post about sourcing and selecting blades in this Scrolling/Scroll Saws section - including tables of info you can download, AND suggestions as to what blade (type, not manufacturer) for different wood, thicknesses, types...

Advice on reasonable scroll saw and extras

Re the axminster saws, you'll need to be a bit more specific - some are pretty good, others said to be "not so much good". So which model/s have you got your eye on? I strongly suggest you do a bit of searching around in this section. For example you'll find many posts by people with experience...

What is this peace off metal

Well, just as you've said, it's a piece of metal - several pieces joined together actually! (Sorry Ardvark. I just couldn't resist - I've only got a little mind you know - and BTW, I have NO idea what it really is). Mis-marriage between a Russian Samovar and an Arab Hookah pipe perhaps? But...

    Home Lift Installation

@deema: Thank you very much for a very interesting and informative post. Unfortunately both my wife and I are at the stage where the stairs are becoming "impossible"! As our house is built on the side of a steep slope, we have the situation where from outside the front door the house looks just...

    spring size

Well, with respect, as member ChaiLatte already pointed out (above), you haven't given us enough info. Does this spring have to fit "snugly" on the OD of the bolt? Or just "loosely"? Does the spring fit into the bolt hole and exert some upward tension on the bolt? You've already said "into a...

What saw to saw a saw?

I don't know what sort of steel such saw blades are made of, but at a GUESS, I'd say some sort of hardened & tempered tool steel. In which case I DOUBT any scroll saw blade (or jig saw blade) would last long very long at all when trying to cut that. The angle grinder plus Phil Pascoe's...

Clarke BS1 Belt Sander - Roller Bearings in front roller - cannot find replacements???

I have to agree with Spectric. Like the OP, I really do hate chucking stuff away (that's partly my tight-fistedness and partly concern for the environment). But reading all the above carefully it does look like the OP really has come to the end of the road - unless he spends MANY hours making a...

Yeah. And getting worse on an almost daily basis! Part of my pension (earned while working in UK) are sent in £s to my (Swiss) bank every 3 months. Every time I see my bank account has been credited (by the bank converting the £s sum into CHF) I see a LOWER amount of CHF credited than for the...
