    Sailing is popular with schools but the average age of sailors is rising annually. Every 10 years the average age is 10 years higher. Pigeon fanciers, bowlers, ... You name it, it is becoming the hobby of the older.

    So did I and we did have them. Mechanical ones first then we could buy digital ones ourselves. Still had to know how to use a slide rule.

    I spend about 5 months a year onboard. HSS drill bits take a bit of a hammering when used on SS. I will get that drill sharpener and see how it goes.

    VAT was 15%. It affects the lowest income group most at its current rate. Also a high rate encourages cash usage to avoid the 20%. We tax income and expenditure but not wealth. Why not?

    I can sharpen drills by hand on a grinder but no space for such luxury on a cruising boat. Are there any decent smallish devices which would work with hss bits up to 10 or 12mm? Philip
