    Removing a burn from oak tabletop

    I have been asked about a repair, and its not something for me to take on but out of curiosity ... Assuming it's solid wood and not a veneer or engineered wood of some kind is removing a burn 'simply' sanding and refinishing or is it more involved?

    Odd gouge?

    Didn't even know I had this and have no idea where I obtained it from :duno: and wondering whether its a 'proper' gouge/ chisel or something someone has created as I cannot find any pics of similar. Can anyone enlighten me? It's a big lump about 1.5" wide in an Ashley Iles handle.
