Mafell MT55C users - help and advice please

The only thing I have to add is that the track clamps on mine (about 4 years old) are a right pain in the nether regions. I hear the new (trigger style) clamps are much better. Hopefully this will be of use for anyone considering buying an older, used MT55CC

Hi Alex, Interested if the provisional sale falls through. I am in Shirley, Solihull, so collection would be OK (with social distancing and all that).

Birch ply or red faced ply ?

I purchased some beech from them to make some drawer fronts for under stair drawers. They cut the beech to size, then planed and thicknessed it for me, for no extra charge. This was done quickly while I waited and I was very pleased with the timber. I would have no concerns in recommending them.

Birch ply or red faced ply ?

I have used both Great Barr Sawmills and Davies Timber in Wythall. I have not purchased any plywood from them - yet. Great Barr sawmills will cut sheet material included in the price of the material and there isn't a limit on the number of cuts. Also they will cut it while you wait (no need to...

Birch ply or red faced ply ?

Thanks all. Birch ply it is then. Might try a sheet of the red faced ply for some shelves in my workshop, where the finish is obviously not important .

Birch ply or red faced ply ?

Splintering would indeed be very bad. Re the number of layers, the red faced ply and the birch both appear to have 13 layers.

Birch ply or red faced ply ?

Thanks. A very good point, but luckily all visible cut edges will be covered with the epoxy finish, so can be filled before finishing. Is there a standard which specifies the maximum permitted size of such voids or is it simply pot luck? Thanks.

Birch ply or red faced ply ?

Happy new year everyone. I know it's not off to a good start but hopefully it will get much better. I am about to embark on my first cabinet making project - a wall hung media cabinet, 2.4m long, by 450 (ish) high, by 450 deep. All externaly visible surfaces are to be finished in an opaque white...

Solid or veneer? How to tell....

I was recently lucky enough to be given a solid walnut table, made from 1 inch thick timber, with 6 inch square legs. I have processed it into planks for use in my projects. It got me thinking about buying unloved tables as a source of timber (hopefully cheaply). The problem is, quite a few...

    Flush door pulls

I am about to start building a storage cabinet for my utility. I want to use flush pulls on the drawers and doors as due to the utility being quite narrow, I don't want handles sticking out from the door/drawer fronts. The type of pull I am looking to make is a simple slot in the wood, which is...

    Ring Doorbells....

Not Ring, but I recently got a Geree video doorbell from Amazon. Reasons for purchase were 2k video (Ring are 1080p I believe), and hard wired power (didn't want to have to keep changing batteries). So far very happy with it. Very few false rings, as the human detection algorithm seems to work...

    Woodworking magazines

Hi John, I will take whatever you have available. Although not new to woodworking, most of what I have done previously could hardly be considered anything other than 'functional' and definitely not 'beautiful'. I want to get into the finer side of the craft, so any cabinet / furniture / turning...
