Recently I acquired large amount 15+ of stanley/record old planes , I want to restore them, keep the best and sell the rest. I tried to sand 1 set of handles, it took me good 45minutes of a task I really didn't enjoyed at all just to strip the old finish and prepare them for new finish. What...

Getting Stuck Rear Handle Off of a Old Record Plane?

Cheers, got it off after completely soaking it in wd40 + LOTS of force/wiggling + actually there was a special kind of twist and turn you had to do to manoeuvre it off. So much Gunk which had just glued itself together.. After sanding it and finishing with a coat of oil, came up really nice.

High or Low: A beginner's conundrum...and other questions...

Most of its given by people who just ramble about completely different things than asked or from people who thinks that Lidl tools are the pinnacle of engineering and haven't tried anything better... I rarely bother replying to posts here. Today I have some time to waste =D> If I hadn't got an...

NEW Good BU Plane such as Quangsheng 62 is Miles and miles better than a standard old-school plane, you need to have a real expertise to setup a regular old battered vintage plane to shave as smooth as the BU will do almost right out of the box.. I would rather use the hours needed to turn an...

Is there a special kind you use for this purpose? None of my flathead screwdrivers are really any good for this purpose ( the huge slots where you would need a rather wide and thin screwdriver). Where do I get one? With just a regular screwdriver I end up chipping the screws as they don't...

How do you get square 90deg. edges with a handplane?

Is it all about the technique/holding the plane or is there some sort of special trick (except messing up your finger/knuckle)? When jointing edges ,however I try, I just can't get constantly totally 90deg. precise edges, without spending an awful amounts of time with a square.
