Post a photo of the last thing you made

A decanter and glass tray made from a mahogany wardrobe that I "liberated" from a skip. I was asked to make it after someone saw that asymmetric Anglesey bowl I made. I asked the owner to send a photo but he didn't use the decanter just 4 glasses but you get the idea. the shape is a...

Probably like you, I have a collection of small offcuts that are too good to throw away but too small for anything immediately. Being lucky enough to own a a lathe I had a little play and came up with these little beauties which are functional as well as quick and could be a nice little earner...

How do these cuts not cause kick back?

Hear Hear, well said, I couldn't agree more! Here in the UK, have we really degenerated to the stage where we are only capable of an action or activity if some shiny buttocks in some Gov't office has written to tell us how to do it? I even saw a washing label in my Granddaughters T shirt which...

Asymmetric turning #2 Was asked to make a retirement presentation bowl for someone from the local Sea Cadets. The requirements were a bowl but had to be shaped like the Isle of Anglesey! A bit of head scratching and I came up with this :- Striped Sapele probably not the best choice but Turned...

    Air brushes

I couldn't agree more but I think most people maybe don't have the room or the finances for a big compressor or can't justify getting one for the odd occasional use? This is the wonderful thing about a forum, it gives people a chance to look at lots of points of view and then make an informed...

    Air brushes

Hi, Kittyhawk, I was a custom airbrush painter for just over 10 years but now retired. All of the above is sound advice. I personally used Iwata Airbrushes which are not cheap but like with everything else you get what you pay for! All types of spray equipment need a constant air supply and you...

Asymmetrical turning. Decided to something with a lump of hawthorn I was given and had a go at Asymmetrical turning. Some general observations. Definitely not for "entry level" The name finger breaker for this style is apt! I didn't break anything but had a nasty thump due to a moments...

    Chopping board finish advice

#Daniel2, I think it all depends on the wood, but as your board is in daily use as is mine I don't think anything needs to be applied either as it's constantly being cleaned :) On reflection, I wonder if we as woodworkers always assume that everything we make needs to have a coat of something?

    Chopping board finish advice

A point of interest. The cutting surface on traditional butchers blocks were end grain which is less destructive to your cutting edge. (think of wood as a bunch of drinking straws) but due to absorption can harbour bacteria so aggressive abrading is required when cleaning. Yes #baldkev, Veg...

    Chopping board finish advice

I can't argue with the above answers but consider this. The first thing you do with food related surfaces is give them a good scrub. Then if its a chopping board you as attack it with a sharp edge and then scrub it again. It's not long until that finish is gone  . For that reason I just...

    Saying Hello

Hello everyone, I just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Marty and I now live on Anglesey N. Wales. I've had my lathe for about four months and the more I do the more I realise i don't know! YouTube is a good source of information but some times I find things I need to understand better...
