    Workshop update

I've been somewhat busy this year trying to get my shop into a more efficient layout and storage facilities etc. It's still in progress but most of it is done. Thought some of you might like to see some of it... Cheers Steve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Air compressors & headless pinner

Hi, I'm considering buying an air compressor and a bostitch TU-216-2330K 23g headless pinner. e.g. http://www.betcofasteners.co.uk/shop/bo ... -30mm.html but not sure what kind of compressor I should get for this. Can anyone suggest one which would do the job? Obviously I want to keep costs...

    A wee problem...

Hi folks My father-in-law (also a woodworking nerd) is visiting us at the moment and he brought his current woodworking problem with him, how kind!!! He's making a chest of drawers out of ash and whilst making the frame (frame+panel construction) he ran into this problem. He was routing by hand...

    Goncalo alves bowl

A small Goncalo alves bowl I turned in October, only about 6 inches in diameter, so quite small. The dovetailed plinth could have been better dimensioned so would not try that again on such a small bowl. Cheers Steve

    a few simple recent pieces

Hi folks I'm no expert turner but still enjoy making the odd thing. Christmas usually makes me turn more for presents! Anyway although simple pieces I still thought they were nice. The oil lamp is walnut and the bottle opener is muhuhu. Cheers Steve

    Christmas has come early...

Not sure where to post an unashamed "gloat", there's no "gloat" category but I spose this can come under "workshop tour"...!? So recently I took delivery of a Hammer A3-31 P/T and I'm very pleased with it (so far). Although I will stress that it has not yet been put through it's paces...

    Tumblr (Blogging)

Don't know how many, if any, of you are using Tumblr as a blogging site? I've only just recently discovered it and it seems quite good. It enables people to follow each other's blogs so that you get updates whenever you log in. It's a bit like Twitter in that you can hash tag things. Anyway...

    Pins/nails for beading

G'day, for those of you who have seen my project in the projects section you will have seen this question already but for those that haven't... I'm making glass paned doors for a cabinet and would like to know what type of pins or nails are typically used for securing beading to the door frame...

Army & Navy Tool Cabinet & a couple of tools...

This is a tool cabinet my father-in-law found in his new house/garage. It did have more tools in it which he wanted to keep but he let me have the cabinet!! I thought it was quite a nice cabinet so I snaffled it. He has left me with a couple of old tools from it. An ancient rabone tape measure...

    Bifold Doors Project

It looks like my display cabinet project is going to have to take a back seat for the moment, or be completed at an even slower pace (if that is possible). The house is still being refurbished/decorated which is what I have been up to recently, and now I need to design and build some bifold...

    CMT parts

I've been searching online for a CMT collet chuck or bush (796.564.00=1/4" or 6.35mm) for their collet chuck adapter (796.121.00) which is for extending the reach of a router bit, but cannot find one in the UK at all. I see that no one seems to sell CMT stuff any more. Would anyone know if...

No joke, it's got to be oak, but which type?

So, my next project is to be made in oak (wife's request), but which type of oak? So, I wonder what are the pros and cons between European Oak, American White Oak and Brown Oak? I realise there is a cost difference but is there anything else I should know? cheers Steve

    Preparing timber components to size

Hi I know this is probably a bit of a daft question/comment, but if my planer/thicknesser has a maximum thicknessing capacity of 150mm and I want to produce two matching single piece sides (of a cabinet) which are 160mm wide then of course I am only able to pass them through the table saw/band...

    Skirting/Architrave

G'day In the nearish future I hope to strip our lounge & dining room of all its (currently painted) skirting/architraving/etc and replace with unpainted wood. I guess some of you have done this before? However, as you can imagine once you start in one room you end up going round the whole house...

    Behold, the Speed Tenon...

Not sure if any of you have seen this (probably some have), but if you check out the movie on this webpage at Fine Woodworking you will see the speed tenon technique on a table saw. Not for the feint hearted! I have not tried this, nor do I necessarily recommend it, but just thought I would...

Planer/Thicknesser Knife or Blade Setting Jigs?

Has anyone got and used either of these two offerings from Rutlands? http://www.rutlands.co.uk/workshop-&-power-tool-accessories/planer-&-thicknesser-accessories/planer-knife-setting-jigs Can you recommend either of these? Any other comments? I'm sick of trying to get my blades set to the...

Cry for help!! -> TS4020 Table Saw Setup...

OK, I know there is a thread in here dating back to 2006 by Scrit about how to tune your table saw so that the sliding carriage is square to the blade, but I am struggling to understand some of the description he used. I am also not having any luck in eliminating the rising teeth from taking a...

Bandsaw Circle Cutting Jig - a la Steve Maskery

We are having our house rewired at the moment which means there is chaos everywhere. We have had about 15 ceiling spotlights removed from the kitchen alone (previous owners went mad with them!). This leaves many large-ish holes in the ceiling which I need to now fill in with small circles of...
