HC 260 Elektra Beckumum - cuts out after 1 minute

It's a pretty old Green version. Just HC260, no letters after it. Last year I had it cutting out fairly frequently but I think that was overheating. So it doesn't blow or trip fuses so the external supply is ok. The issue now is the run time which is about a minute. Press start again and it runs...

    Lasers - advice please

Looked into branding irons but got some up himself pillock which rather put me off following it up. As for logo area it'd be fine within a 40mm area. No glue present, pure British hardwood, untreated. As for CNC, then no but I have a mate who can. So maybe go for something lower end and see how...

    Lasers - advice please

I'd like to be able to put my brand name / logo onto the looms I make. Has anyone experience of and or recommendations for what to go / look for? Maybe need one with a bit of extra power just in case I want to move to cutting shapes in thin ply.

Elektra Beckum BAS 315/ Metabo spare part "trunnion block"

Finally set up and wonderful to use. 2 little issues. 1) Is the defective side bearing in the blade guide. 3 run perfectly but the one which the the blade previously continuously ran hard on, while now free turning, has a damaged running surface so isn't always in contact with the blade. It...

Elektra Beckum BAS 315/ Metabo spare part "trunnion block"

More resolvable issues. Always problems with second or more hand machines. Put in a new blade and rotated it a few times. I could see it was going on and off the rear thrust bearing. I assume that to be knackered tyres and the blade not sitting true. Confirm please anyone? The top blade guide...

    Elektra Beckum 260 planer blades

Finally done it and achieved 4-5mm all round. On close inspection I discovered that some pillock had tried inserting and screwing up the blade holder 90 degrees out. i.e. nuts facing upwards. This had marked the bed and left high spots where the bolts had bitten it. Flattened all that off...

    Elektra Beckum 260 planer blades

Got some adjustment but been doing battle with the out table sliders. There's a clearance either side so as when the locking catches are applied it tends skew the table a little just a hint, which would make one side of the top edge a fraction higher or lower and forward or back than the other...

Elektra Beckum BAS 315/ Metabo spare part "trunnion block"

I'll strip it out and have a look. If there's space on the carrier I might go for a slotted steel strip. A mate is a metalworker and has an English Wheel so we could do a tidy job. Why they didn't save the broken out bit and epoxy it back in I don't know. Not perfect but might have been an...

    Elektra Beckum 260 planer blades

It's an old 260c. Generally a very god machine. Yes it is adjustable but it's reached the end of the slot in the brackets. Horizontally the grub screws are ok for fine adjustment. Using it primarily as a thicknesser it's not often the out table is fitted. I don't think the brackets will...

Elektra Beckum BAS 315/ Metabo spare part "trunnion block"

Worse than I thought. Ok in horizontal but no chance of tilting it. Note taken re useless pot metal. Maybe wait for an old scrapper. Will strip it out though and see if it might accept a steel facing plate .

    Elektra Beckum 260 planer blades

Just on with installing new blades and noticed this in the manual If you compare left and right images the blades are different ways round. Fortunately you can't install them incorrectly as the 2 locating pins (one round one oval) mean it only goes in one way round. However try as I might I...

Elektra Beckum BAS 315/ Metabo spare part "trunnion block"

I'm ok for the moment so can crack on once the new blades arrive. Just my preference to have things right so if / when I need it it's ready to go. I'll take a photo of the part. Did wonder about a thin, slotted steel plate to reinforce it.

Elektra Beckum BAS 315/ Metabo spare part "trunnion block"

Picked up an Elektra Beckum BAS 315 Band saw on Friday. Almost mint condition. Other than having to order a couple of saw blades for it there's only one issue. The table trunnion block is broken - fine in the horizontal but there's a chunk out of the side of the tilt slot so can't be set...

    Planer switching off -

Don't appear to be any extra wires there. Just in and out of the box under the motor. Thermal cutout on motor? Turned it on its side and got the vac to suck then blow around the motor. Not that there was much in the way of obvious dust there. Report back after a test So it runs longer when it's...

    Planer switching off -

Not that long since I overhauled it. Only started happening in the last week or 2. It it trips it can be restarted immediately. The workshop has a door at each end so stood it in the draft a while. Better but still trips after a few minutes. ! Ah ha !! Now, i was thinking the blades might need...

    Planer switching off -

I found an old tread on almost the same issue Elektra Beckum Motor Protection Reset Is this a sign of a potentially failing thermal unit?

    Planer switching off -

I've an old Elektra Beckum planer thicknesser Runs great, generally. Recently taken to switching off mid plane. I think this is probably a motor temperature issue. Is there a safety cut out fitted? Give it a minute or several and it will start just fine. Just a hassle when you're a lot of timber...

    Startright Mercury rattle

Well pressing on with it to see if I can track it down. All components look pretty good and have a new bearing for the top of the spindle. Got the grub screw out of the locking collar so hope it will come free tomorrow. Almost got it stripped but finding the pulley a bit of a pillock to release...

    Startright Mercury rattle

Bought this fully refurbed a few years back. It does a fair bit of work in timber, very little with metal. Been getting a little louder for a while but kinda got used to it. Issue really got noticeable when I upped the speed. Before I go further, yes the quill appears good with no sideways...

    Repetitious task - Resizing dowel

I used to buy off Cheshire mouldings but they're fairly low quality and I got to rejecting 60 percent as being rubbish. Moved to Burbridges. I'd buy maybe 750m at a time. Burbridges have recently changed their supplier and now their 9mm dowel is about 9.2/3 dia on average. Bit of a pillock when...
